Goals, Florida
Dear Farris:
Please let me take this opportunity to congratulate you
upon your nomination for Governor of the State of Florida.
It was a splendid victory.
I think it would be fitting for no to mention at this time
the tremendous effort our mutual friend, Ralph Powers, exer-
ted in your behalf. As you know, Ralph and I have been friends
for a long time and I have never seen him take as much interest
in any campaign as he did in yours.
It was necessary for we to cast an absentee ballot because a
trial in Miami before Judge Holt was set for election day.
observed the returns cone in from.the headquarters which had
been set up in the First National Bank Building there for the
press, radio and television.
I
I have a tape recording of selected portions of these proceed-
ings. Yesterday I played it for Ralph and I as having it trans-
cribed.
I know you are aware of the feeling in Dade County. Some time
I would like for you to hear it it you do not have this avail-
able. The recording includes commentaries by the announcers as
well as the remarks of Governor Collins, the telephone conver-
sation that you had with the people in Miami Iron your headquar-
ters Tuesday night and your opponent's remarks by telephone.
with earnest personal regards and best wishes, I an
Sincerely,
M
