Honorable Farris Bryant
P. 0. Box 1773
Ocala, Florida
Dear Farris:
An electrical storm has us out of telephone communi-
cation with Ocala today so I an writing to report on a conti-
dential call Just received from a mutual friend. He advises
that the Board oi Control is now in session here in Tallahassee
and has under consideration various important matters that will
he acted on in the near future it not today.
There has been considerable support evidenced in
behalf of J. Broward Culpepper and lode Stone for President oi
F. S. U. The Board is today considering appointing Broward as
President of the new University to be located at Boca Raton.
You will reneaber that the state accepted a donation of about
1,000 acres (on abandoned airport) but that no tunds have
been appropriated by the Legislature for this proposed school.
Our iniormer is of the belief that the Boca Baton
project is so nebulous at this time that it is most premature
to name a president for the school. He feels that the duty at
this selection should be chalged to your administration.
I gather from our iriend that he is very much pro-
Culpepper and thinks he should be selected as President of
F.8.U. He reports that prior to the late Bob Stroaier's
demise, "hell was a popping" out at F.8.U. with all kinds of
internal problems. He believes a dependable native Floridian
should be selected and thinks Culpepper is the man.
Other important matters are being discussed and
our friend is of the belief that Jim Love of Quincy, would
confidentially report through lilson Carroway, it you have no
better contact.
Iilson was very appreciate oi your call earlier
this week to him. He indicates a desire to assist you in
every possible way.
Vith personal regards,
Sinccr
