Dear Farris: 5

Congratulations, Hr. Governor, on a hard-fought and

well conducted campaign. Your victory at the polls yes-
terday was well deserved.

As you know, I have a crystal ball to gaae in here
in Venice and for that reason remind you that on May 4 I
wrote you to state that you would he the next governor of
the State of Florida. This, of course. is a tongue-in-cheek

statement, but I definitely did write such a letter back
on the 4th.

Enclosed find a photo-copy of the returns from
sarasota County as well as a small excerpt from the front
page of this morning's Sarasota herald-wrihune. You will
note that Carlton only polled 677 more votes than you did
in this county which is a great credit to you and your
campaign for you cut the first primary deficit in half.
in comparing the first and second primaries in this county

I note that you received 1940 more votes in Sarasota County
than in the first primary.

Your campaigning paid off in our Venice area precincts
for your carried two of the five. whereas in the first primary

you did not carry any of the five. Also. in the first primary
you trailed by 186 votes, but in this primary by 82 votes.
More votes were case down here this time as well for 866 were

cast the first time and 1608 this time. The comparative
figures are as follows:

years of progress for Florida under your leadership.

Sincerely.
