Farris Bryant. former Speaker of the House of Representatives, received
a rousing ovation here from more than 100 ardent supporters as he

announced his candidacy for governor.

The group of outstanding business and civic leaders came from all parts
of Flarida to be on hand when the 45-year old Ocala attorney officially
entered his name as a candidate for the governor of Florida to repre-

sentatives of the State Capital's press-radio-TV-corps.

Smiling and confident, Bryant told the cheering crowd that his campaign
is well ahead of schedule." With 57 of the state's 67 counties repre-
sented at the Saturday meeting. he stated that Bryant for Governor'I
organizations are sprouting up all over the state and that there are

well organized Bryant groups in each of the state's 67 counties.

'This is most gratifying sine the only commitment I have had to make is
that I will do the best job for all Florida," Bryant said.

Bryant. the only man to win the Florida State Jaycees Gold Key Service
Award twice as "One of the five outstanding Young Men in I-loridal
(1948-1950) announced that the actual campaign will get under way on
February 20 at a state-wide rally in Orlando where four or five thou-

sand supporters are expected to attend.

Chosen three times (1949, 1953, 1955) as the Most Outstanding Member of

the Florida House of Representatives. by newspaper editors and writers,

Bryant said. his campaign will be well financed and that, 'Friends have
pledged to raise as much money as will be needed to place Farris
Bryant's qualifications and record before all the people of Florida.

"Our campaign will endeavor not only to put my qualifications before
the public. but to insist that the other candidates put their quali-
fications before the public as well. If this is done properly. he
added, I believe the good people of Florida will adopt our campaign
slogan which we adopted here today ... 'It's Time For Bryant".

Honored by representatives of the Florida Legislature ten times during
his five sessions in the House. Bryant also was cited by the university
of Florida (1953) for Outstanding Service to the State and to the uni-
versity of Florida. His awards in the House were:
1947. First Termer with Most Promise and Member of Most Effective
Three-Man Delegation: 1949. Most Valuable All-Round Member of
House and Most Outstanding House Member in committee; 1951. Host
Valuable All-Round Member of House and Member of Most Effective
3-Man Delegation; 1953. Most Valuable AllRound Member of House
and Member of Most Effective 3~uan Delegation; 1955. Most Valuable
Member of 'Entire" Legislature and Most Effective Debate: in the

House.

In announcing his candidacy. Farris Bryant named former State Repre-
sentative. Max Brewer of Titusville as the state campaign manager. The

campaign treasurer is Ocala C.P.A. James Weaver.
