Ray 8. Green

Florida Comptroller

Ray 8. Green. Florida's 24th Comptroller. was born Sspt.
l. 1899. in Manatee County.

He attended public achools in Clearwater and is a graduate
and registered pharmacist.

Green twice was elected mayor o1 Clearwater. aerving
[rem 1935 to 1938.

In 1938. he was appointed Clerk of the Circuit Court. He
was elected to that office for three terms.

Green became Assistant State Comptroller in I949. lie
was appointed Comptroller in 1955 and war continued in office
by election in 1956.

In 1959. he was nominated by the Democratic Party for
re-election by an Bl per cent vote.

He was presented the Allen Morris award in i959 {or his
accomplishments as State Comptroller.

Green has been recounized (or his eiforta to establish
additional school facilities in Florida. Iie helped create the
University of South Florida at Tampa and another state uni-
versity at Beca Raton.
