won the battle of integration. It is true that they hate
won the majority of the court decisions, but they have lost
the vast majority of the popular decisions, and as surely
as this is a democracy, segregation will be maintained.

Every court decision anywhere in the nation tearing
down the structure of states rights is bringing home to
the people of the horth and west the fact that this battle
is theirs as well as ours. The reaction of the newspaper
fashion editors to the indertion of integratioh into an

an-nuatural situation clearly demonstrates that fact.

Wherever the slightest progress has been made toward
integration it-has been, not because of popular approval,
but in spite ofuit. If it were not fdr minority control
of metropolitan areas, integration would not even be an
issue in the country today. It is an artificial issue

even now, and ultimately the pressure for it will fail.
