Dear Farris:

Thank ou so much for accepting my invitation
to speak to our akeland Rotary Club. I am putting you
down for Tuesday. September 8. I will. of course. be in
touch with you prior to this date.

Concerning politics. I find. Ferris. that most
people do not want to commit themselves at this early date.
Though many in this area are giving most favorable considera-
tion to your candidacy. they want to wait and see who will
be in the race. I cannot argue with this viewpoint. as I
think it is a sound approach. I do feel that most of the
people here that 1 shall come in contact with will be inclined

your way.

The dominant factor in this area. I think. will be
the segregation issue. After the experience with Leroy Collins.
many people I have talked to say they want a man who has firm
convictions on this point.

Be sure and call me. Farris. the next time you are
down Lakeland way.
