Dear Farris:

Thank you for your letter of July 27th dealing
with your race for Governor, and you ask that i give you
my thoughts on this important matter.

The lower East Coast of Florida, from Vero
Beach to Key West, is one of the fastest growing sections
of our State and I believe of the entire Nation. Literally
thousands of people are pouring into this East Coast part
of Florida every week. it seems to me this section is long
overdue to have proper representation in our State govern-
ment. Ever since we have been living under our present Con-
stitution, for over 50 years, this part of Florida has never
had a Cabinet official or a Governor. As you well know, this

section of Florida makes an enormous contribution towards
our State financial set-up.

i understand that there may be candidates from

cht fine, young man with lots of energy_and_gbillty. it is
my opinion that a very definite effort on the part of the
Lower East Coast of Florida citizenship will be made to elect
3 Governor and at least one Cabinet official. I think you
are an outstanding citizen of this State and i believe you
would make Florida a good Governor. i also feel that there
are men in our section of Florida who are outstanding and
would give to Florida a capable and efficient governor.

it is a little early yet to make any definite
commitments. i appreciate your letter and i appreciate your
friendshipand it may be that if you enter this race 1 will

be in a position to support you. With kindest personal re-
