I deeply appreciate your frank and kind letter of
Auguet 20.
I wish it were poeaible for me to categorically
answer your questions. particularly the $64 one -
can I be elected? I can only give your my hone-t
evaluation of the picture as I see it now.
A. you well know, the road to publieoffice is one
of many "upa and "downe" and the man who get.
there with the moat "upa" wine. Frankly, I have
every reaeon to believe that I have more in my
favor than any ether prospective candidate mentioned
to date.. This in confirmed not only by hundreds of
individuals around the State, which judgment I re-
spect. but aiIo by most political writer: who follow
the political picture very cloaely. I might nay alto
that some of the other hopefuls have admitted this
to friends of mine.
Also. to aubetantiate my conviction is that my
financial picture looks more encouraging each day -
a factor which alwaye reflects one'e chancec.
