Dear Dick:
Thank you very much for your letter of January
let. I feared that Roy and his friends might
be irritated witn me by reason of this action,
and am glad-that it is not so.
Sometime ago I talked with Brailey to request
his intentions relative to 1956, and he advised
me tnat if elected in l95h, and eligible for re-
election in 1956, he very likely would make the
effort. Later I talked with Roy in Tallahassee
and, while he was not as affirmative as Brailey
about that question, he declined to give any
assurance that he would not do so.
I do not want to run in 195%. The position I
will take in the suit filed is that the person
elected in 1954 should not 0: allowed to run
for re-election.
I did feel that the people of Florida are entitled
to know the answer to the question, and of course
it materially affects me as a prospective candi~
date in 1956 to know whether or not I will be
running against an incumbent.
I have not had occasion to say so since your de-
parture from Tallahassee, but you will recall that
from 19%? down to date I have a confidence in you
and a respect for you which has never been shaken.
In the '55 Session of the Legislature whether I
am there or not, I propose actively to do all in
my power to see to it that political considera-
tions do not deny to you the Justification to

which you are entitled.
