Seer Farris:

Your letter in reply to mine releti e to the committees
for the 1953 session was received some time ago but I have

waited to reply until I could check on the number of bills
handled during t: 19§1 Session.

I asked the Reference Bureau to make a check as to the
number of bills handled during the 1951 Session and 1 am
advised that there were a total or 38 bills referred to the
Education "n" and "B" committees, -ducati;n "A" having 22
and :ducetion "B" 16.

0f tae 38 bills affecting education referred to the two
committees, they advised me that 9 related to the institu-
tions of higher learning. I thought this information might

be helpful Lo you in making up your mind on the suggestions
which I made.

I was in rallahaaaee a few days ago and 1 found the rumor
circulating there that the McCarty forces were making some
effort to unseat you as opeaker or the 19%} Session. I had
no indication of that in this area but I would appreciate
it if you would pass on to me whatever information you have
on the matter. You know, of course, that 1 would be very
strongly against any effort by the governor, whoever he may
be, to interfere with the organization of the House and if
such is going on I woulH like to know about it and you can
