I am honored to have your recent letter asking my views on your enterv
ing the Governor's racc next May.

Because of the nature of my work. my participation in political matters
has been very circumscribed. We did manage to get involved in the recent
intangible Tax iracas. with a conspicuous lack of success.

Florida is fortunate in having a number of rather outstanding young men
who contemplate making the Governors race. Because at the heavy financial
outlay involved, uch candidate (sees an extremely diicult decision.

Last week Senator [Dickinson as much as announced his candidacy in Fort
Myers at a Kiwanis Meeting. The Miami Herald has carried recent news items
that Rep. Herrell of Miami Springs contemplates making the race. in this area
Senator Doyle Carlton. Ir. a school champion in the last legislature. would prob-
ably receive a good deal of support from local papers including the Tampa Tribune.



Because of the tight control of the legislature by the North Florida block
of counties. there is increasing evidence that the electorate in south Florida will
lean towards a South Florich candidate, if his qualifications are reasonably on a
par with those of candidates from other sections of the state.

We have read a number of newspaper accounts commenting on your line
legislative record and generally recognized character and ability. Personally.
we feel that you are eminently qualied. and should you make the race and emerge
as the successful candidate. Florida will. lam sure. enjoy a most successiul ad-
ministration under your tenure in olfice.
