Please pardon my delay in answering your letter of July 15.
I wanted to make a few soundings and inquiries before
answering.
In all probability, Wade County will possibly have a can-
didate in the Governor's race. Basing my opinion on political
acumen, this should have a tendency to favor your can1in1cy,
as it will undrubtedly provide a division between certain
candidates who, no doubt, will be in the race. I specifically
refer to the possibility of Lr. Cliff Herrell and hr. Doyle
srlcton.
At this point, it seats to me that the race is wide open,
and that your possibility of election would be equally as
50:1 as the other prospectiVe candidates.
In the 1956 election, you made a very creditable race, and
the experience you gained and the new friends made over the
State should prove a valuable asset in 1960.
Of course, one cf the most important points to consider is

Mr. Farris Bryant
You of course realize that the tremendous Dade County vote
will play a dominant role in the election of any State-wide
caniiiate. You will recall Fuller Barron's vote in Wade
County in l9hf, which was instrumental in his success in the
election. It is necessary that the Jade County vote oe so
split that it would not be too difficult to overcame in
other areas. It is my opinion, by diligently working in
Palm Reach, Broward and Dede areas with good live-wire or
ganizations, this could be accomplished in your behalf.
The over all picture will undoubtedly be clarified as to
Just what Opposition you may expect, within the next three
rzonths.
As a suyporter of yours in your last effort, you may count
on me for any assistance that I can provide, or that you
may require, as I sincerely believe that you would make
Florida an outstanding Governor.
If I can be of any further service to you in any way, please
