Dear Farris: k-

I receiVed your very thoughtful letter of July 15. and must
confess that I was quite flattered at your taking time to

write me in your very busy schedule. I am delighted to

know that you are still available to take part in the up coming

Governor's "race of many candidates" as it appears it is
going to developc.

Quite frankly i personally feel your chances are excellent and
among those I feel are going to announce. I believe you to be

the best known to the voters. You have an advantage over even
Former Governor Caldwell. in that you are well known to the
voters. The feelings locally is such that the large new papu-
lation here in South Florida wants a favorite son-a candidate
who they feel will justly reconize this dynamic area. and is
aware of the revenue which we produce and send to Tallahassee.
They particularly feel we have been shortchanged as to

secondary road money and improvements. which we badly need
in this area.

The two strongest local men left now that Alan Boyd appears to
be headed for private interest. rather than a political campaign,
are Senator Joe Eaton and Representative Cliff Herrell. However.

I believe Joe to be four years to early from his zenith position.
Cliff. I believe is a little to soon to quick.

After the splendid showing you made in your last campaign. even
without the benefit of local upport, and/ or little or eVen detri-
mental newspaper publicity, Ifeel you can wage a more effective

campaign,particularly if you can gain favor with our local news-
media. particularly the Herald and Television stations.

Mr. Farris Bryant. Continual?

As you are from the heart of our great State. you could quite easily. I
am sure. convince the local electoral that you would be desirous,
willing and able of justly representing us in going to bat on our behalf.

I would welcome the opportunity to see and talk with you at length con-
cerning this matter in the near future. Please let me know of any

advantageous trips you might make to the Greater Miami area and I will
line up programs for you at my Kiwanis Club, Joycee'a Club and/or other

Civic or Paternal gatherings. OnCe again let me thank you for your kind
letter.
