Dear Allen:

I real your column yeste~iay, as always, with

a great deal of interest and pleasure. Your

inalyses, while el-oet always kind, are always
can.

In your column you mentioned that Bryant had
op cscl the turnpike, making the last speech
against it on the floor. Normally I wculd not
write to call attenticn to your memory lapse
on that. for it is always renarkable to me
that you remember so much so well-but this
particularly thing is especially importa.t to
me. The Xiami papers have done a job on me
relative to that issue.

In 1953. as speaker, I lid not speak on the
Turnpike. I did vote identically with Fob
Floyd and Dante Fascell. I did insist that

Tom Cobb's sense of fair lay would undoubtedly
have permitted it do do at a.yway.

in 1955, Bill Chappell's first session in the
legislature, I led the fight for the full-length
turnpike, and made the concludin§ e.pech for the
proponents--not the opponents. on Manuel both
told and wrote me his appreciation--vaernor
Collins sent me a perzonal note of thanks.

I know this is a small thing, but in the lower
vast coast area it is very important--if you
eVer do a column on a related subject I would
appreciate your settin the record straight.
