Dear Farris:

I received your letter of July 24th in regards to
the Governor's race next May. I have heard some favorable
expression in the behalf of your possible candidacy for
governor, but of course there has not been an expression

ran a sufficient number of people at this time in this
area to establish any definite trend.

I think that your support in this area at this
tine is as strong or perhaps stronger than other possible
candidates, except possibly former Governor Millard Caldwell.
Should Mr. Caldwell decide to enter the race he would prob-
ably have pretty strong support in this area. As you know,
there are several possible candidates from the lower East
Coast and I believe that your somewhat conservative back-

round and your Legislative stand on reapportionnent in
be 1955 Session would be much more acceptable to the voters
in this area in preference to any of the possible candidates
fron the lower East Coast. I don't think that the other

possible candidate from this area would be too strong here
and definitely not on a state wide basis.
