Dear Burnham:

Belatedly but most assuredly, I want you to

know that I deeply appreciate your letter of
July 28.

Among the things you discussed, your thoughts
on the lack of organization in 1956 are most
realistic. Of course you know as well as I
that in this game of politics you cannot have
organization without finance. It goes with-
out saying that was my real problem then.
However. I am glad to report that we are over-
coming the financial problem which haunted my
campaign in 1956. All in all, I cannot help
but feel encouraged by the reports that I am
getting from my many friends throughout the
State. As you so capably put it. many people
wait until all the horses are at the post and

running until they pick their choice. I think
that is true as of today.
