Dear Farris:

It is with much regret that I find it
necessary to write you this letter and it is with
my deepest sincere apologies that I do so.

At the time I voiced desires to be of
any possible support to you in any political ven-
ture that you might desire it was my understanding
that my good friend Doyle Carlton was not going
to be a candidate for Governor. Farris, Doyle
Carlton is a friend of mine and his family has
been a friend of my family for many years. I
think very highly of Doyle and since I find myself
in a position of having two men, both of which I
think of very highly, running for office I feel
that it would behoove me to bow out of any active
support of either campaign. I have been asked
many times for my public support for Doyle and I
have told him the same as I am now telling you.

my position in this matter and wishing you the
