Dear John:

This concerns our telephone conversation relative to

a member oi the Board of Control under the new admin-
istration. 1 am not sure when Joe Hays' term expires
and 1 do not know whether or not the incoming

Governor intends to reappoint Hr. Hays, but if there

is to be a change in this position I hope the Governor
will give most serious consideration to Rex Farrior, Jr.

Pex was a supporter of Mr. Bryant. Because of his
interest in the campaign for Coandssioner of Agriculture
he of course could not be as active in the gubernatorial
campaign as he otherwise might have been, but we must
remember the post oi Commissioner of Agriculture is

a very responsible one too.

I for many years have been interested in higher edu-
cational institutions and have worked very closely
with our University of Florida, especially with the
College of Agriculture and the various Experiment
Stations. 1 have no interest however in personalities.
1 am most highly interest however in efficient opera-
tion. I feel we need some young men on the Board of
Control.

I don't need to tell you anything about Rex'a quali-
fications. You know him probably as well as I do
and l have known him since he was a very young man.
His father and 1 were in the University together.

of course the Governor could not eppoint Rex. I

Ae it etende now, no one could be eppointed from Leon
Alechue, Hillsborough or Seint Johns counties, end
with two more institutions of higher leerning con-
templeted two edditionel counties would be eliminated.

John, I sincerely hope you will use your influence
which I know is very eubetentiel with the Governor
to get Rex on this Boerd. He is cepeble, he is

aggressive, and he is interested in higher educetion.
