Dear John:
in response to your letter of October 30th, I have tried to bunch
the counties together in my own thinking more on the basis of
their being a homogeneous group of voters rather than upon anv
other basis. Hean is correct in assuming that the C does refer
to Central Florida. the N to North Florida. the SW to Southwest
Floridn, and the G to Gold Coast. There are some counties 1
have not classified. the most aignificmt being St. Lucie. Martin.
Indian River, which are s strip along the East coast which is
neither Gold Coast in its thinking nor Central Florida in its
thinking. and which is beginning to be infested with a substantial
number of Republicans who are not. of course. reflected in the
Democratic figures but whose thinking undoubtedly does affect
the registered Democrats. Then there is a group of counties
including DeSoto, Glades, llurdee, Ilendrv, Martin, Okeechobee,
to which I have never given a name but which are grouped in on
thinking with Llonroe County sitting off bv itself and fitting no
particular pattern.
Generdllv. I feel that the counties 1 have designated Central and those
designated Southweat go together, but there are enough differences to
warrant the distinction I don't feel the differences between llills-
borough and Duvai Countv, so far as the kind of candidate thev went.
