Dear Governor:

i talked with Mr. Rolfe uncut your suggestion that he accompany you to
talk with Mr. Ball about a contribution to Florida Southern. while

Mr. Holfe is quite enthusiastic abOut the possibility of interesting

Mr. Ball in the College. ne pointed out the rather dillicnlt position he

is in about approaching him initially. As you know, Mr. Ball and Hr. wolfe
serve together on several boards, particularly on one relating to the
restoration of St. Auwustlne.

Hr. Rolfe says that ha is lost not in a good position to ask Mr. Ball {or
assistance Lot something else at the present time. He says that if you

will initiate the matter with Mr. Ball and remind him of Mr. Wolfe's
connection with the College, he will be glad to reinforce everything you

do.

Hr. Holte did accompany Dr. Spivey to see Hrs. DuPont some years ago. As
4 result 0: this visit, sue established some annual scholarships. which she
has discontinued. (She dLchnLinued her scholarship program involving

about six colleges several years ago.)

dc will be grateful for any assistance you might secure from Hr. Ball, but
the major progect of the moment is the building program under the Educa-
tional Facilities Act which 1 Iantioned to you. He [ind that we must have
new library facilities. 'rhe library project and its related classroom

rennvation will cost abour $800,000. He can get a grant covering about

211 of this and could borrow up to $02. A gift of $200,000 would make this
prOIcct possible. Sciolarshnps and faculty salaries. however. have been
our chief concern (or a long time. Assistance on any of these items will
