David G. Temples, now an Assistant Professor in the
Institute of Cover-mental Research at P. S, U. in the capitol city,
and I are hard at work revising the text-book on the Government and
Politics of Florida. We haVe good mason to belieVe that the revised
53 will run,with the Florida Constitution added as an Appendix, more
than 300 pages. We will considerably "beef up' the original 1957 edition.
We would like very much to have you write the Preface or
Foreword for the revised text on Florida governnent and politics. We
would sepecially like to have this accomplished while you are still
serving as Chief mecutive of Florida. I an enclosing the Preface which
you wrote in 1957 art! may wish to revise, or enlarge, or use 'as is.
"ould you do this cror us at your early convenience? If you do not
wish to do this, wild you so let me know? We hope you will take time
from your busy schedule to do this little favor for us. We hope to run
the preface over your name an! title, if you so allow.
I hope that you have begun work, or have aeal grind the work,
of drafting and publishing a record of your Administration in Tallahassee,
for as you know all of our Governors have sought to leave a concise and
complete record of their Administrations and atcmplistments; for instandc,
I cite you the 1:02 page volume (in letter press): Florida Across the
Threshold: The Administration of Governor LeRoy CoIIIns, January H, I955-
Jenuary 3, 1961. While Governors previous to Governor Collins did not
publish such a large volume, each of then, in one form or another, left
a published account of the Administration and accclnplishments for posterity.
Please do begin this work, if you have not already done so. I would
hope that your account would not be;aurnalese6r the various reports
of the several agencies of the state as has been the case in w mama.
