Dear Farris:

l deeply appreciate your letter of August 28th. reviewing some of
the high spots of your term as Governor. Let me say that I not only
supported your candidacy to the best of my ability. but have been increas-
ingly proud that i did so. if you finally decide to resume practice in Ocala.
we will be most happy to welcome you back and share in the distinction you
will add to the Marion County Bar. 1 ltnew that you had handled the race
problem and road building in a masterly fashion. but I did not realize the
variety and extent of the accomplishments of your administration in many
other fields. i am particularly glad to have the analysis of governmental
expenses and the comparison of actual costs with projected costs based on
the annual rate of increase prior to your administration.

Altogether yours has been a distinguished administration. of which
you may be and your home county is justly proud.

There are two things that I have given some thought to which may
not have attracted your attention among so many other important matters.
First. the oppressive nature of the Medicare Bill. placing most of the tax
burden on the younger wage earners and salaried people who could least
sustain it and who would never benefit from it until and unless they reached
age 65 and were hospitalised. A copy of a letter I wrote several years ago
to the Orlando Sentinel on this subject is attached. The other matter is the
question of integrated schools. To me that is a far more serious evil in the
long run than integrated motels. hotels. restaurants or what not. The Negro
race is definitely inferior and any intermixture will lower the quality and
capacity for civilization of our citizens as it has done in other countries
throughout the world. Assuming that it will not be possible to repeal school
integration, :1 separation of the sexes would be useful and quite effective,
in my opinion. Aside from reducing dangerous contacts. it would largely
eliminate the demand for integration.
