I have been somewhat disturbed by sn-erticle which appeared
in the St. Petershury Times and hiemi Herald in which i

was quoted ss saying Y came up here with the idea the:
President Kennedy had two more years in office and possibly
six. i learned from Gov. Bryant that you can dislike s

men without shouting it from the rooftops."

What i actually told the reporter in answer to a question

was that I hsd served with two Governors in the Legislature

of Florida and had learned that you can disagree with a non
'without fallinw cut personelly. i referred to the opportunity
1 had in the Florida House to serve while Gov. Collins was
servinp as Governor. and of course you in the second session

that I served.

it disturbed me that the inference true this supposed quote
wss to the effect that Gov. Bryant hates or dislikes men

or a man. but doesn't any so publickly. This was not the
inference that was intended and is comnletely out of context
with anything that was said in this interview and should you
have seen the article, wsnted to set the record strainht.

l on sure, however, that in your long end distinguished career
in novernment. you have been mlsquoted osny tines end understsnd
the position that we are sometimes placed in. I did went you

to know that l regretted the incident very much and should it
cause now nossihle cohersssment, wanted to set the record
streirht with mv apology for this oiquote.
