Croee Florida Barge Canal on lebruary 21. 1964. and I am grateful
to you {or inviting me to this hietuical ceremony. I recognize it ae
the culmination of the dreama {or thin waterway which will be eo
important to all of the United Statee and eapecially florida. Certainly
you and Secretary Torn Adams. ae well ae all the citiaene of Florida,
and eepecially Senatore Holland and Smathere and the Florida
Congreeaional Delegation can take genuine pride in the encccu of
your efforte to make thie dream a reality.
Uniortunately. i learned a your kind invitation only yeeterday
while I wee on thie trip to the Marehall Space Flight Center oi NASA
at Huntaville. Alabama. and so 1 could not join you on this momentoua
occaeion. l ehall be with you in epirit m that etart o! the important
link in our inland waterway eyetem.
