The Honorable Farris Bryant .- IC'L
Governor of the State of Florida It :wnh
Tallahassee, Florida >

Dear Governor:

I am enclosing the front page of the Lake-Sumter section of the
Orlando Sentinel with a story covering the conversation you had with the
Lake County Board of Commissioners at the dinner meeting in Orlando
Tuesday night.

After talking with you Wednesday night. 1 had a long talk with Com-
missioner Jake Cowart from Mascotte. and Board Chairman Herbert Babb
of Umatilla. Both of them assured me that they sincerely appreciated
your efforts and were happy to release the $130. 000 in secondary funds.
Mr. Babb said that he had taken Commissioner Dewey Livingston home
after the meeting. and that Dewey was also appreciative of your efforts. I
talked to Mr. Livingston early yesterday morning and had a real long talk
with him. and he told me that he was the one responsible for the article in
the paper in order that the people in the Eustis area would understand and
know that no funds were being taken from their area for the benefit of U. S.
27. He reaffirmed to me what he had told Mr. Babb that he appreciated
your efforts very much and understood that you were making an extra effort
to carry out your cammitment in regard to 27. He did say. however, that
he certainly wished that something could be done for 44. He said that Max
Brewer quite some time ago made the definite statement before some group
meeting that the 44 contract would be let and that it was just a matter of
days before it would be announced.

I tried to call you yesterday morning, but you had just left for the
lower east coast. and yesterday afternoou yOu were busy when I called again.
I decided that I would drOp you a line knowing how busy you must be.

I had a nice talk with Herbert Butler yesterday afternoon. and both of
us are particularly pleased that our County Commissioners are apparently
happy about the prospective letting of U. S. 2? contract and are sincerely
appreciative of your efforts.

Sincerely yours,
J. C. Rogers
