Longtime Stuart city

MARTIN COUNTY Stuart City
Commissioner Jeffrey Krauskopf
said his latest political victory has
left him humbled by the show of
public support.
He captured 67 percent of the
vote in the Nov. 3 race for the Group

political arena,
having served as
mayor six times.

MARTIN COUNTY On a recent
Monday, a volunteer in a nonde-
script building in the northern part
of the county answered a call at her
work station.
It was the start of her shift at Trea-
sure Coast Crisis Line, a nonprofit
telephone counseling service,
where there's no caller ID, so con-
versations are completely anony-
mous, and operators conceal their
identities as a safety measure.

weekend's

The caller was frantic, unem-
ployed and facing the possibility of
having his electricity disconnected,
so he called Treasure Coast Crisis
Line at (772) 463-1475 to seek assis-
tance.
"The types of calls we get run the
gamut, but lately, the trend is that
people are in financial disaster," the
operator said.
Annie Elliot, who directs publicity
for the nonprofit, says that 75 per-
cent of callers want help with basic
needs, such as paying utility bills or
rent. Others might want assistance
fighting an addiction, be mentally

ill, or want help with domestic
abuse, medical or legal problems,
loneliness or several other issues.
One operator recently assisted a
man facing eviction who had found
a new home, but had no furniture.
"We had to quickly come up with
referrals, and there isn't very much
out there," she said.
The lagging economy, which has
led to record unemployment on the
Treasure Coast, has taken on toll on
local charities.

When he was a boy grow-

the late 1970s, Sean McG-

would make an entrance
by air in a high-tech mili-

show for thousands of
spectators.
Today, Mr. McGlynn is a
lieutenant colonel in the
U.S. Air Force and chief of
safety operations at the
Randolph Air Force Base in
San Antonio, Texas, where
he is stationed.
At this weekend's VNA Air

demonstrate the T-6 Texan

"It's an honor to return to
Martin County while repre-
senting the United States

strong support of the mili-

"The more information and
data we collect, the more
understanding we will have,"
she said.
It's possible in two to five
years the study will produce
tangible results, Dr. Traut-
mann said.
Martin Memorial's partici-
pation involves collecting
blood samples of patients and
providing them to VGTI for
analysis, said Wendy Ryzner,
clinical research site supervi-
sor.
Patients must consent to
participate, she said, and they
are asked to return and
donate blood again in 30 days.

"Sometimes you do research in one field and
it's applicable to another field."

Lydie Trautmann
project scientist

The samples are being col-
lected from people with flu-
like symptoms, those who
have the symptoms and
receive a positive test for the
flu, and those who receive
vaccines. The latter will be
divided into categories of
people getting either the sea-
sonal or H1N1 vaccine or
both.
By the end of flu season,
Ms. Ryzner said, the goal is to
collect samples from 270
patients.
Dr. Trautmann said she and
other scientists will analyze

body's immune system reac-
tion to the virus and the vac-
cines.
Part of the aim is to deter-
mine which parts of the
immune system are active in
fighting the virus and devel-
oping a vaccine that would
recruit all parts of the
immune system to react at the
same time to the virus, she
said.
The study will also look at
the "memory" the immune
system retains of the infec-
tion, Dr. Trautmann said.
By better understanding all
of that, she said, they hope to
find ways to develop vaccines
earlier that can be adminis-
tered before the virus
mutates.
"Better understanding of
this will have a crucial
impact," she said.
The formulation and test-
ing vaccines would be accel-
erated by this process, said
John Schatzle, manager of sci-
entific affairs for VGTI.
Also, Dr. Trautmann said,
scientists want to help with
developing more effective
vaccines, as the ones that are
currently developed do not
prevent a person from getting
the disease 100 percent of the
time.
The research could help
with developing vaccines for
AIDS and other diseases, she
said.
"Sometimes you do
research in one field and it's
applicable to another field,"
Dr. Trautmann added.
One challenge is obtaining
the necessary number of
blood samples, she said.
The aim is to prevent the
disease in humans, so it is
crucial to get samples from
people, Dr. Trautmann said.
Anyone interested in partici-
pating can call (772) 288-5858

who participate will receive a

priorities include slashing

Voter requests ranged
from adding stop signs to
changing city ordinances.
"They're pretty doable,"
he said.
As for considering anoth-

open to the idea.
"The idea is if the citizens

Prosecute 'real' criminals

I have been witnessing many friends and family mem-
bers who have gotten DUIs.
Granted, they are breaking the law, however, most of
these people have not injured anyone, not gotten into an
accident nor damaged any property. Most have not even
gotten a legitimate traffic violation.
I have seen police cars watching cars leave a bar's park-
ing lot and following them a block or two, then stopping
them, falsely accusing them of a violation; i.e., signal light
not seen, not a complete stop at a stop sign, erratic driv-
ing; (most of which were bogus) just to get them to take a
breathalyzer test.
Everyone knows that "one" drink could put you over the
limit. Most people can consume more than that and not
be any less coherent than someone not drinking at all.
What about people on cell phones or listening to too
loud music or anything else distracting their driving?
My complaint is this: those who truly should be arrested
is one thing; those who do not suffer undue punishment.
Their drivers' licenses are taken away; leaving them with
no transportation to get to work or shop for groceries.
Most of them lose their jobs and have no income; there-
fore living expenses are eliminated.
Moreover, they are expected to find someone 24/7 able
to drive them to AA meetings, parole office meetings, psy-
chology counseling, community service, court appear-
ances, etc., which, by the way, have to be paid for by the
"criminal" several times a week, for several months. These
fees range from $25 to $100 per visit.
If they miss one due to lack of money or a ride, they are
penalized with higher fees and more visits.
Also, some are sent to facilities for a month as inpa-
tients, denying their family any contact or income. Plus,
when you complete all that the "law" has required, the
DMV has additional requirements, furthering your fees,
etc.
I know people who have gone over two years and
through thousands and have no job, income or trans-
portation, so they will never be done.
I even know someone who was followed from a bar to
their home, accused of a DUI violation as they stepped out
of their car in their driveway; spent the night in jail and in
court was determined not to have been over the limit.
Their violation was reduced to reckless driving (huh?)
and still had to pay fees and go to meetings because the
DMV finds you guilty, regardless. Who put them in charge?
Moreover, this money-making process for the county is
not helping the economy. Yes, it is providing jobs for clerks
and counselors, but adding to the unemployment of
many. With legitimate layoffs, homes foreclosing and fam-
ilies falling apart, it's no wonder people drink!
Why don't we just close all the bars, ban the sale of alco-
hol (further putting people and businesses out of work)
and use the collected monies to supply the unemployed
with living expenses?
Oh wait, that won't work. No one will be able to afford a
car to drive while drinking bootleg liquor, in order to get a
DUI and pay until they die. Hmmm, there go all those gov-
ernment jobs.
Let's get real: Go out and prosecute real criminals who,
most of the time, get off by being innocent until proven
guilty. Not so for those who dared to have "one" drink,
caused no harm and were punished for eternity, financial-
ly and morally, with a record that most potential employ-
ers frown on.
If you, reader, are an attorney or politician, please figure
out a way to differentiate the true criminals and appropri-
ate punishment, and let this depressing economy get back
on its feet. Most first-time violators will think twice before
drinking anywhere but home.

Enough hand outs

Have we had enough of government spending? Will we
ever have enough?
Officials at the Department of the Treasury admit they are
now considering another billion-dollar bailout, this time to
GMAC, which has already been handed $12.5 billion of our
money since December 2008.

Tips for healthier holiday eating

| e holidays are almost
upon us again and
Nothing says holidays
like food.
Halloween candy seems to
kick off the season, and
many of our memories of
Thanksgiving through the
New Year center on favorite
dishes, wonderful aromas
and family get-togethers.
Even the workplace can be
a dessert "minefield." All that
good eating can wreak havoc
with your diet and nutrition,
but there are several things
you can do to enjoy the
holidays and have good food
without a bad case of the
guiltss" afterwards.
For Tara Gidus, team
dietitian for the Orlando
Magic, the important thing is
to have a plan, both for the
season, and for handling
specific situations.
While it may notbe a good
time to start a diet or diet
rigorously, showing some
discipline without complete-
ly depriving yourself is a
good way to start the New
Year on a positive note,
especially if losing weight is
on your to do list.
Working in an office can
be rough on your diet.
Everyone seems to bake and
bring in goodies. A good idea
is to decide in advance what
you're going to do and stick
with the plan.
"Choose carefully," Ms.
Gidus says. "Don't just have

one of everything that comes
in. If you know there will be
treats, eat a small breakfast
and have a small treat.
Portion control is always key.
Take one piece and sit down
and eat it instead of standing
around and continually
snacking. Take very small
bites, to make it last longer,
or only have a few bites and
quietly dispose of it. If you
don't want to say no, you still
don't have to eat it all."
Gifts of food can be a
problem, but you needn't
keep tempting food in the
house. If you're the host or
hostess, send people home
with lots of doggy bags.
Spread the calories around.
Parties can be another
pitfall. The two important
rules, Ms. Gidus says, are
never to go to a party
hungry and always have a
plan.
"Don't go to parties
starving," she says. "Eat
protein snacks, such as
cottage cheese or low-fat
cheese, chicken, turkey,
milk or yogurt, before you
go. Protein is filling and may
help you from overeating
once you get there.

A quick introd

The Internet is so big
that sometimes it
can be challenging
to do anything productive
when the temptation is to
just explore.
From mailing lists to
newsgroups, it can be a
real challenge just decid-
ing where to begin.
Perhaps the most
intriguing aspect of the
Internet is the World Wide
Web. Thousands of new
Web sites appear every
day, and many sites vanish
without a trace.
AWeb site is simply a
collection of files (text,
pictures and more) stored
on a remote computer or
server so that it is avail-
able to anyone 24 hours a
day.
Each Web site is
assigned its own unique
address or universal
resource locator. The URL
acts like a phone number.
It allows anyone in the
world with an Internet
connection and aWeb
browser to access that
particular Web site.
In short, a Web site is a
location on the World
Wide Web where a person,
company or organization
has information posted

COMPUTE
THIS
SEAN MCCARTHY

for the entire world to see.
A person can post his or
her resume online or keep
an up-to-date photo
album for friends and
family to access periodi-
cally.
A company can have its
entire catalog stored
online for anyone who has
a computer to browse
through their catalog,
choose a product and
place orders online.
Organizations such as
clubs or groups can post
their newsletters on their
Web site so all of their
members can have access
to up-to-date information.
Many clubs or organiza-
tions will even have forms
that people can fill out
online to join. The World
Wide Web is a powerful
way for people to get their
messages out to the entire
world. And it's easy!
In order to access a Web
site, you must first be
connected to the Internet

"Look at all the food
before you start to load your
plate," she says. "You don't
want to have a full plate and
realize that your favorite
food is at the end of the line.
"Try to fill half your plate
with vegetables, either raw,
cooked or in a salad. Take
small portions of the rest of
the food. When it comes
time for dessert, look again
at all of the offerings. Share
a piece with a friend; it will
decrease portion size for
both of you."
The dietician also sug-
gests sticking to vegetable
hors d'oeuvres, shrimp
cocktail, pretzels and nuts,
and to avoid or limit fried
foods and mayonnaise- and
sour cream-based dishes.
If you're going to have
alcohol, Ms. Gidus advises
that you choose light beer or
wine spritzers. A sugary
drink or eggnog with brandy
can add 400 to 500 calories.
Choose a diet soft drink or
seltzer with a twist of lemon
or lime or tomato juice
without the alcohol.
Just because it's holiday
time is no reason to stop
exercising. Not only will you
burn calories, you'll lessen
the stress and overeating
that holidays often bring.
You'll also feel a little more
in control of things when
you stick to a routine. If
you're unusually pressed for
time, as we often are during

the holidays, break up your
exercising into smaller 10-
minute segments, and add
walking by parking far from
the store and using stairs
instead of elevators.
"Move more," Ms. Gidus
suggests. "Try to start a new
tradition of going for walks
or playing active games with
the family. Do an extra 15
minutes of exercise to make
up for the extra calories."
Finally, remember that
the holidays are about
family and friends, not food.
Focus on the socializing and
not the eating. Be kind to
yourself, too. Don't beat
yourself up if you over-
indulge; just try to get back
on track.

Wachovia recently com-
pleted its United Way of
Martin County pledge cam-
paign, with team members
participating in a dessert
extravaganza contest at
Indian River State College
Chastain Campus in Stuart.
In addition to its nation-

wide United Way campaign,
the Wachovia team at the
local event raised $561
toward the United Way of
Martin County 2009-10
campaign.
"It was a creative and deli-

community partner to raise
funds for the annual cam-

United Way assistant devel-
opment director.

"It just goes to show how
much fun companies can
have while raising money to
help their community."
More than 35 Wachovia
team members entered a
dessert in the contest. The
judge's favorite award went
to Bonnie Simes, Palm City

for her carrot cake. Adriana

article, you will see the word

if I miss it once, Scott

me. Let the record reflect
that I intended to use the
word "alleged" in front of
every bad thing I say about
"Scottie."
First, let's talk about greed.
Guys such as Bernie Madoff

can scam people so easily
because of the greed of the
"scamees" (I hesitate to use
the word sucker, for fear of
being sued.) Most of Bernie's
victims were educated,
wealthy and sophisticated
individuals. This raises the
question of how such a
person could believe they
could continuously earn
higher returns on their
investments than everybody
else and never have a loss
year.
Add to that, they were
refused any information
about "how" Bernie was

investing their money.
Wouldn't this make you
nervous? I can come up with
only one emotion that can
overcome the common
sense that would tell most
people this was a scam and
that is pure, unadulterated
greed.
The parallels between
Bernie's capers and those
allegations against Scottie
are many. The investors were
educated, wealthy and
sophisticated. Also, Bernie

welcome for the Carnival
Dream, although this time,
there will be a cruise give-a-
way, where one lucky
winner (and guest) will win
a cruise in a suite on a
Carnival fantasy-class ship.
It's worth the trip out to
Jetty Park for the festivities.
Carnival's largest vessel
comes complete with
amenities galore including
an adults-only serenity area
that accommodates more
than 200 with chaise
lounges, sun loungers,
hammocks, two whirlpools
overlooking the sea and a
full bar. The large screen
seaside theatre allows for

their investment, strikingly
similar to what Bernie
promised his investors.
Scottie's investors were
told no details of the invest-
ments could be revealed
because they were based on
confidential settlement
agreements.
Scottie allegedly told some
of his "scamees" that several
of the settlements he was
asking them to finance were
to victims of the infamous
Jeffrey Epstein, the billion-
aire Palm Beach investor,
convicted of paying children
for sex.
Now let's talk about
courage. Every day that
passes reveals more people
who claim they knew Bernie
Madoff was a crook all along.
If that's the case, why didn't
they speak up a long time
ago? To be fair, there was one
man, Alex Dalmady, who did
speak out, but the SEC
ignored him. If Scott Roth-
stein stole $500 million in
such an obvious Ponzi
scheme, based on such an
outrageous premise, why
didn't lots of people speak
out? I know local lawyers
who, off the record, will say
they knew all along that
there was no way Scott
Rothstein could earn the
money to support his
decadent life style from the
proceeds of his law firms'
legal activities. Why didn't
they speak out before? I can
tell you why. They were
afraid they would be sued.
The operative word here is
"afraid."
Almost every time I write
this column, I wave a red flag
at somebody (usually a car
dealer) who must think
about suing me and some-
times do.
Abraham Lincoln said, "To
sin by silence when they
should protest makes
cowards of men."
He was referring to those
who in their hearts knew
slavery was wrong, but were
afraid to speak out against
the status quo. You can

make the call as to whether
I'm a brave man or a fool,
but I believe in speaking my
mind when it comes to
those that do wrong.
Finally, let's talk about
karma. You may never have
watched the TV sitcom, "My
Name Is Earl." It's kind of
silly and not everybody's
cup of tea. Of course, I
watched it when it first came
out because of the name.
There aren't many of "us
Earls" around. When I
learned that the premise
was about a character, Earl
Hickey, who changed
overnight from being a
common crook to an honest
person who devoted the rest
of his life to redeeming his
past sins, I was hooked.
After all, that's the story of
my life, too. I went from an
average car dealer who
would do almost anything to
sell a car to a consumer
advocate for the car buyers
of Florida.
The word karma comes
into play in "My Name Is
Earl" because Earl's hit by a
car and then the wind blows
away his million dollar
lottery ticket. He interprets
this as karma, punishing
him for his past sins. He
begins a quest to make
whole all those he swindled
and karma causes the wind
to blow the winning lottery
ticket right back to him.
Here's what karma (or
whatever you want to call it)
has done for me. As of last
month, my Toyota dealer-
ship in Lake Park (popula-
tion 9,000) has sold more
cars in this year than any
other car dealer in Florida
except two. We are the
fourth largest volume Toyota
dealer in the Southeast US
and 34th largest in the US.
I alluded earlier to my
being sued because of what
I wrote in this column
(which I also blog). Guess
who sued me? It was Ted
Morse and his lawyers from
Scott Rothsteins law firm.
Not only did Scottie's law
firm sue me on behalf of Ted
Morse, but they also sued
me themselves. They alleged
that I had defamed them, as
well as Ted. Of course,
Rothstein's law firm was
dissolved because the FBI is
investigating the owner for a
$500 million Ponzi scheme
and he took all of the law
firm's money to boot. There
isn't enough money to pay
the law firm's employees or
the law firm's clients and
escrow monies.
I'm waiting to see if they
can scrape together enough
money to continue their suit
against me and defend my
suit my suit against them.
Stay tuned for further
developments.

couple of years that we
have gone through, we
need to remember the spir-
it of the holiday season.

We should all share what
we have and spare what we

By Shelley Koppel
Entertainment writer
STUART If you go to
the Lyric Theatre on Nov.
16, be prepared to do some
reading. Before taking
their seats, audience
members will be asked to
clip out a short article or
headline from a variety of
magazine and newspa-
pers.
All of the selections will
be hung on big bulletin
boards on stage. The
improvisation troupe,
Whirled News Tonight, will
pick stories at random and
satirize them on the spot.
It's all spontaneous and
unrehearsed.
Whirled News Tonight is
one of the troupes under
the improve umbrella of iO
Theater in Chicago, home
of great improvisational
theater. Jason Chin, direc-
tor of Whirled News
Tonight, spoke recently
from his home base about
the joys and danger of
spontaneity.
"People try to help us by
picking strange or weird
stories," he said. "Those
aren't as much fun as
straight news.
"When it falls flat, the
risk is part of the fun. Our
regular show has 10 or 11
people on stage. They are a
support system. They've
been together for years.
They're a team and we all
stand and fall together.
They may add to a scene or
get a rid of a scene."
The troupe's motto is
"the smartest show in

Chicago" and that means
knowing something about
a lot of different things.
"Going blue or risquO is
funny, but we have restric-
tions," Mr. Chin said. "It's
funnier to us to be smarter
for satire to work.
"There has to be knowl-
edge of the things being
satirized, so we have to
know everything. We hope
for something challenging.
That's the basic improve
training; play it smart, real
and human. The trick is to
have emotion behind it,"
he said.
The actors often think
they know which subjects
will be popular and some-
times they're wrong, Mr.
Chin said. There was defi-
nite audience fatigue over
two recent stories, Gov.
Rod Blagojevich's troubles
in Illinois and Michael
Jackson's death.
"The fun is trying to fig-
ure out where the audi-
ence is," he said. "They
should get ready for some-
thing they haven't seen
before. What we do is com-
pletely new for that show
and they'll never see those
scenes or characters
again."
Mr. Chin emphasized
that the troupe doesn't
take sides.
"Comedians are the loyal
and hopefully, hilarious
opposition," he said. "All
the gloves are off for all the
parties. There is no right
and wrong; everyone's
wrong."

Aries-March 21-April 19
Your strong belief in doing
things right is a major fac-
tor in your wonderful per-
sonal, professional and
social success. When you
get that "right" feeling
nothing can stop or slow
you down. You have an
awesome reservoir of cre-
ativity, talent and passion.
So many dreams live in
your heart.
Taurus-April 20-May 20
This year has been chal-
lenging. Next year has
good promise. Why?
Because you continue to
ride out the storms of life.
You never give up. This is
one of your greatest gifts.
It would be nice if you let
others do a little more for
you when needed. You
have strong instincts to
guide you when you are
open and listening.
Gemini-May 21-June 21
You know what you want.
Surrender your lower will
and ask the universe to
help you get it and it will.
It takes patience, trust and
faith in the higher power.
Make sure you have a
vision of the probable out-
come before taking action.
This inner guidance will
save a lot of frustration.
Cancer-June 22-July 22
Your heart energy is espe-
cially strong right now.
Stay psyched up. Now is
the best time to take
action on new plans. You
will be amazed at the pos-
itive results. You are less
stressed, more relaxed
and feeling better as the
result. Use this as a spring-
board to propel you for-
ward and up to your best
goals and dreams.
Leo-July 23-Aug. 22
Responsibilities continue
to increase. The key is not
to do more, but to refine
present jobs and keep
them balanced. Successful
people work the top two
or three priorities first.
They let the lesser things
wait and take action on
them only if they move up
the priority list. Your fine
sense of duty will see you
through.

to live a high-quality life.
Quality is more important
than quantity. Your request
for wisdom above riches
makes the universe want
to shower you with both.
Keep your focus on peace,
love, health, faith, joy, cre-
ativity and freedom and
abundance will be added,
as well.
Libra-Sept. 23-Oct. 22
Your load in life wants to
get lighter. It's up to you to
listen to your inner feelings
and say no when your
instincts tell you to. The
tide is flowing in your favor
now. Write down the
"aha's" you hear that bring
joy to your heart. Keep
them moving forward. You
don't have to be all things
to all people anymore.

Scorpio-Oct. 23-Nov. 21
Keep a strong focus on
your goals right now. Enjoy
your time at the helm of
the zodiac. You always take
care of everyone else. It's
time to take care of your
self. Positive actions are
strong medicine and earn

respect, love and honor.
You can expect forward
movement, renewed joy
and abundance as your
rewards.
Sagittarius-Nov. 22-Dec. 21
You have grown so much
emotionally, spiritually and
universally this year. You
are calmer, more centered
and upbeat. You are a fire
sign. Your instincts rule
your head. Trust and use
them. They are the inner
light that guides you.
Enrich your personal life.
An emotionally stable Sag
is a powerful force in life.
Capricorn-Dec. 22-Jan. 19
You have accomplished a
lot this year. It's time to
prepare next year's list.
Your confidence level is
higher than ever because
of successes this year.
Many of the results are
because of your strong,
healthy interest in life. The
passion in your soul burns
strong. Seize and savor
each moment.
Aquarius-Jan. 20-Feb. 18
The artist living in your
soul demands more
expression. Just be sure to
finish old projects in pro-
portion to starting new

ones. Maintain balance in
life. The deeper secrets
and mysteries of life con-
tinue to emerge and be
made known to you. This
deep well is your reward.
Pisces-Feb. 19-March 20
You are more highly
respected than you know.
For every person who com-
mends you, nine others are
thinking it. Many quote
your words of wisdom.
Why? Because you help so
many find their way in life.
Your mission is to help and
serve. This is a treasure
above great riches and the
primary source of your
happiness.

The show is still a work-

they are not a graceful

Dinny McGuire has an

adorable as Billy Bob. He
makes a cute, if rather over-

As always, the singing is
wonderful, the sight gags
hysterical and the show a
delight.

In November, visitors can

Fellow Florida Car Dealers, if you don't
know me, I should tell you that I don't profess
to be some "holier than thou" car dealer who
was always perfect for the past 38 years.
When I look at some of my past advertising
and sales tactics, I am not always proud.
But I have evolved as my customers have
evolved. My customers' expectations, level
of education and sophistication are much
higher today. Your customers are no different.
My remarks are made sincerely and with a
positive intent toward you and your custom-
ers. I am not trying to tell you
how to run your business. I "My cu
am suggesting a change that
will reward both you and your expectat
customers.

Virtually every car dealer of eauuc
in Florida adds a charge to
the price of cars he sells, a Sophistic
"dealer fee/doc fee/dealer
prep" fee ranging from $500 much high
to nearly $1,000. This extra
charge is programmed into
your computer. It has been made illegal in
many states including California, but is still
legal in Florida. The reason you charge this
fee is simply to increase the price of the car
ENT and your profit in such a manner that it is not
noticed by your customers. This is just plain
ire wrong. I used to charge a dealer fee ($495)
one and when I stopped charging it a few years
your ago it was scary. But I did it because I could
way no longer, in good conscience, mislead my
OuMd customers. Just because everybody else
ed, was doing the same thing, did not make it
us. correct.

Now, here is the good news. After eliminat-
ing the dealer fee my profit per car did drop
by about the amount of the dealer fee, but
my customers realized I was now giving them
a fair shake and quoting a complete out-the-
door price with no "surprises". And the word
spread. My volume of car sales began to rise
rapidly. Sure, I was making a few hundred
dollars less per car, but I was selling a lot
more cars. I was and am selling cars to many
of your former customers. My bottom line
has improved, not because I eliminated the
dealer fee, but because I was
tomers' able to earn the trust of more
customers in buying their new
ons, level or used car. You can do the
same.
tion and Why am I writing this letter?
I'm not going to tell you that
nation are I think of myself as the new
"sheriff' that has come to
ter today." "clean up South Florida". In
fact, I am well aware that this
letter is, to some extent, self-
serving. Many people will read this letter and
learn why they should buy a car from me,
and not you. And, I am also aware that most
dealers who read this will either get angry and
ignore it or not have the courage to follow my
lead. But maybe you will be the exception. If
you have any interest in following my lead,
call me anytime. I don't have a secretary and
I don't screen any of my phone calls. I would
love to chat with you about this.
Sincerely,
Earl Stewart Earl Stewart Toyota

favorite bridges this time of
the year for big snook, jacks
and the occasional tarpon.
Fish close to the pilings and
put your bait on the bottom. If
you can feel the bottom, you
know you are in the zone.
Favored bait up that way is

weight.
Cast up into the current far
enough that when it gets to
the pilings, it is in the zone.
Just lift your rod tip, let the
current move your bait and
when it stops, set the hook.
Going north, you will notice
the ox bows are very deep on
one side, and that is the area
you want to fish. Again, get to
the bottom.
It is all about the wind and
the strong current that it cre-
ates. Pick a bridge and fish the
pilings. Keep in mind, the fish
will feed face into the current.
Flair Hawks will get you in the
zone. Just lift your rod tip; let
the current present the bait.

In the river, it will be cooler
water, meaning the reds will
stay in the flats, the pompano
will be skipping and blues
and mackerels will chew
everything.
Trout is closed, so if that is
the target, just take the barbs
off the hooks and go catch-
ing;.
The Indian River Keeper is
having a fundraiser called the
Fall Mullet Run Celebration,
Nov. 14 from 5-8 p.m. at Tay-
lor Creek Marina. Tickets are
$15 and that includes fried
fish, hushpuppies coleslaw
and a soft drink. There will be
music, a silent auction, art
and more. If you cannot make
it, buy a ticket anyway.

owner of the Snook Nook Bait
and Tackle shop in Jensen
