CHRISTMAS AND NIW YEAR MESSAGES
The following texts of Christmas and New Year Messages from the Ministry
of Transport and Civil Aviation and the Secretary of State for the Colonies are
published for general information :-
From the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation-
This is the first occasion on which it has fallen to me as Minister of
Transport and Civil Aviation to send Seasonal Greetings to all those
members of the Merchant Navy who are spending Christmaa overseas.
Many of us at home know from experience what it means to spend
Christmas far from our homes and families. Nothing can quite make
up for that. But we are glad to know that though duty takes you away
at this time you will be celebrating the Festival in the Traditional Way
among friends to whom we offer our warm thanks for all they have
done and are doing for the welfare of our seafarers.
We can look back on the past twelve months with quiet satisfaction,
for the year has been one of solid national achievement in which the
Merchant Navy has played a great part. We are indeed grateful to you.
I wish you all a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year."
From the Secretary of State for the Colonies-
I join with the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation in
expressing my thanks to all those associated with the welfare of
Merchant Seamen. To them and to all seamen front the Colonies I
send my best wishes and greetings for Christmas and the New Year."
