for a period of three years in the first
instance.

point of entry will depend on qualifica-
tions and experience. Travelling and
subsistence allowances at local rates are
payable. Quarters are not provided.
The officer appointed will be eligible
for leave at the rate of one week for
each completed period of three months
resident service in the Colony.
Free passages on appointment, includ-
ing normal incidental travelling ex-
penses, will be provided for the officer
and his family and return passages on
terinination of the appointment (up to
a limit of five passages).
The holder of the post will be res-
ponsible to the Superintendent of Agri-
culture and will be required to under-
take all such veterinary duties as may
be assigned to him. Training and ex-
perienoe in animal husbandry (especial-
ly tropical) will be of advantage.
The officer appointed will be allowed
to charge and collect fees at prescribed
rates for attendance to privately owned
animals on estates, etc.. but will be re-
quired to give free treatment and at-
tendance to animals owned by peasants
and small holders.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS (CADET).
Applications are invited from quali-
fled persons (men or women) for ap-
pointment as Administrative Assistants
(Cadet) in the Administrative Service
of the Government of Jamaica.
The post is non-pensionable and car-
ries a salary of 500 a year. Success-
ful candidates, provided they pass the
prescribed medical examination, will be
appointed on probation for a period of
three years and if their service is satis-
factory will be eligible for appointment
to the pensionable post of Administra-
tive Assistant (620x25-770x25-
920: promotion to the post of Ad-
ministrative Assistant will normally
take place at the end of the probationary
period, but cadets showing administra-
tive ability may be considered for such
promotion before the end of this period.
Cadets will normally be attached on
appointment either to th e Colonial
Secretary's 01ice or to one of the Min-
istries, and will be liable to transfer
between one Ministry and another in
order to gain experience. Cadets may
be required to take a course of training
in the United Kingdom after serving
for about a year; this training will
usually take the form of the Overseas
Training Course A at Oxford or Cam-
bridge; free passages to and from the
United Kingdom will be provided and
subsistence allowance paid.
Candidates should possess a recog-
nised University degree and should not
be less than 21 years of age or older
than 26 years of ;age at the date of ap-
plication. Applications in writing
should be forwarded to reach the Colo-
nial Secretary's Office (Establishment
Branch), Kingston, Jamaica, not later
than the 30th September, 1954.

This iiw pier runs parallel to, and is
140 ft. east of the existing East Pier.

extend 420 ft. from the shoreline.
As construction proceeds. two white
lights will be placed at the farthest
point of the construction.
Shipping entering the roadstead at
night are advised to take warning.
