GENERAL ELECTIONS, 1954.

The notice of prospective candidates is
drawn to the following provisions of th'
St. Vincent (Legislative Council) Order
in Council, 1951 :-
Section 10 of the Order in Council pro-
vides that no person shall be qualified to
be appointed as a Nominated Member or
elected as an Elected Member of the
Council or, having been so appointed or
elected, shall sit or vote in the Council,
who at the time of appointment or elec-
tion-
(b) (i) in the case of a Nominated.
Member holds any public of-
fice; or
(ii) in the case of an Elected
Member, holds, or is acting in,
any such office.
Section (1) of the Order in Council de-
fines "public office" as follows :-
"'public office' means, subject to the
provisions of subsection (3) of this sec-
tion, any office of emolument under a
Municipal Corporation within Saint Vin-
cent "
Any person who intends to contest a
seat at the forthcoming general elections


and who holds any public office within
the meaning of this term as defined
above should vacate such office before
nomination day.
It was declared by the Saint Vincent
(Legislative Council) (Public Offices)
Ordinance, 1952 (No. 14 of 1952) made in
pursuance of the provisions of subsection
(3) of section 1 of the Order in Council--
that the offices of Chairman and Member
of the Kingstown Board shall not be pub-
lic offices for all or any of the purposes of
the Order in Council.
Members of other Municipal Corpora-
tions who are in receipt of payments (by
whatever name called) from such Corpo-
rations would appear to be affected by the
above provisions.

VACANT POSTS.


WINDWARD ISLANDS BROADCASTING
SERVICE

VACANCY FOR THE POST OF
ENGINEER-IN-CHARGE.

Applications are invited from suitably
qualified candidates for appointment to
the post of Engineer-in-Charge of the
Windward Islands Broadcasting Station,
St. George's Grenada.
2. The salary of the post is $4320 per
annum. Quarters are not provided.
3. The appointment is non-pension-
able, and will be on probation for six
months in the first instance. Subject to
satisfactory completion of the probation-
ary period, appointment will be on con-
tract for three years. The officer will be
subject to the Colonial Regulations and
local General Orders for the time being
in force, in so far as they are applicable.
4. Candidates should preferably hold
a degree in Radio or Electrical Engineer
ing, or equivalent qualifications, and have
at least two years practical experience in
the operation and maintenance of H.F.
transmitters up to 5KW, the practical and
theoretical design of transmitting and re-
ceiving aerial arrays and feeders; and all
types of L.F. equipment. Candidates
without a degree, but who have passed a
recognized full-time course in radio and
electrical engineering, and additionally
have several years professional experi-
ence in the above fields, including at
least one year in a supervisory capacity,
will be considered for the post.
5. Free first class passages will be pro-
vided for the officer, his wife and child-
ren, on first appointment and on satisfaz-
tory termination of his contract.
Vacation leave on full salary will be
granted at the rate of one week for each
completed period of three months resi-
dent service.

VACANT POST OF SURVEYOR, LANDS
AND SURVEY DEPARTMENT
ST. VINCENT.

Applications are invited for the post
of Surveyor, Lauds and Survey Depart-
ment, St. Vincent.
The salary of the post is in the scale
J3,240 x $120-$4,320 per annum. No
Cost of Living allowance is payable and
quarters are not provided.
Candidates must be in possession of a
licene- entitling them to practise as a
Land Surveyor in either Trinidad or
British Guiana.
There is an efficiency bar at the point
$3,800 per annum in the scale referred
to above and progress beyond this bar
will be contingent on the passing of
the Intermediate Examination of the
Royal Institution of Chartered Survey-
ors (Sub-division V) Land Survey.
The appointment is iin-pensionable
and is subject to the Colonial Regula-
tions, and the General Oiders of the
Windward Islands.
Applications should be addressed to
the Assistant Adminlistrator and Estab-
lishment Officer, Government Office,
St. Vincent, and should reach him not
later than 30th June, 19.54.

NOTICE.

Notice is hereby given that the Chief
of Police has approved of the undermen-
tioned buildings for the storage of petro-
leum.
SThis notice is issued in accordance with
Section 9 (6) of Cap. 180 of the Laws oi
St. Vincent.
Particulars.
The building specially erected for the
storage of petroleum by Messrs United
Traders Limited of Kingstown, and situ-
ate on the parking area between Hills-
boro and Bedford Streets, Kingstown.
The building specially erected for the
storage of petroleum by Mr. Basil Bal-
combe of Langley Park, and situate on
open lands adjacent to the Mt. Bentinck
shop, Georgetown.

POST OF LABORATORY ATTENDANT
GOVERNMENT COTTON GINNERY.

Applications are invited for the post of
Laboratory Attendant at the Govern-
ment Cotton Ginnery.
Applicants must state age, academic
qualifications, scientific knowledge and
experience, if any.
The successful candidate will receive
training by the Government Chemist and
will be expected to carry out tests in oils,
soaps etc., and to make chemical analy-
ses. He shall also be responsible for the
general supervision of the Oil Refining
Plant and be expected to give any other
general assistance as he may be called
upon to give from time to time.
The salary will be in the grade $744 x
72-$960 x 84-$1632 and shall begin at a
point depending upon the previous know-
ledge and experience of the applicant se-
lected for the post.

HOLIDAY RESORTS LTD.

Chapter 219 of the Revised Laws of St.

at a Special General Meeting of The St.
Vincent Golfing and Holiday Resorts
Ltd., held on the seventeenth day of
May, 1954, the following resoltition
was passed.

CUSTOMS NOTICE.
The attention of Importers is drawn
to the provisions of Section 24 (3) of the
Customs Ordinance (Cap. 183), and also
Customs (Warehouse Prohibition) Notice
S.R. & O. 17/1954 made thereunder.
This notice provides that the duty on
the goods enumerated in the Schedule
thereto, and shown hereunder, shall be
paid on the first importation of the said
goods. It also prohibits the warehous-
ing in a Government warehouse of the
said goods.
The maximum penalty prescribed for
a breach of the provisions of the section
or notice referred to above is $240.
