pressed to Mr. MACDONALD, on behalf

ciation of the outstanding service that

maintaining the farm labour programme
in the U.S.A.. and their admiration of

in the Windward Islands Broadcasting
Service, St. George's, Grenada.

VACANCIES FOR GOVERNMENT MEDI-
CAL OFFICERS, MEDICAL DEPART-
MENT, BRITISH GUIANA.
There are vacancies for Government
Medical Officers in the Medical Depart-
ment of British Guiana, and applications
are invited for appointment to these
posts. Appointment will be either on
contract for three years in the first
instance.or to the pensionable establisih-
ment subject to satisfactory service
during a probationary period of two
years.
2. An officer appointed on contract
will normally be granted, on the satis-
factory completion of his resident ser-
vice, a gratuity equivalent to 221/ of
his basis salary in British Guiana calcu-
lated in respect of each completed period
of three months service, including ap-
proved leave. If, however, he follows
his contract service with a pensionable
colonial appointment, he will be given
the option either to receive the gratnity

counted as qualifying service for pen-
sion purposes.
3. The salary of a Government Medi-
cal Officer is 750x30-900x50-
1,000 // x 50-1,200 per annum-
Passing the bar / ] at 1,000 per annum
is contingent upon the officer either
holding an accepted post-grad uate quali-
fication or on his undertaking approved
post-graduate studies leading to higher
qualifications, e.g., in Public Health.
In addition a temporary (non-pen-
sionable) cost-of-living allowance of
50 per annum is payable.
4. Free passages to British Guiana
will be provided on first appointment
for the officer, his wife and children
not exceeding five persons in all, child-
ren to be under 18 yeais of age. Vaca-
tion leave is earned at the rate of 5
days for each completed month of
resident service up to a maximum of 6
months subject to the completion of a
minimum tour of service of 2 years. If
married, the Officer will also be eligible
for the grant of assisted passages for
himself and wife when granted leave of
abs nce subject to the provision of
funds annually by the Legislative Co n-
cil anll to the requirements of the Pub-
lic Officers Leave (Passages) Regulations,
1952.
5. Free quarters or an allowance of
100 per annum in lieu are provided
for medical ofllicers attached to Institu-
tions. In districts where unfulrnislhed
Government quarters are available, rent
is pa;ya!le for such quarters at the rate
of 10% of tile Officer's salary. Furni-
ture is obtained locally.
6. The person appointed will be re-
quired to perform the usual duties of a
Government Medical Officer ntder tlhe
supervision of tile Director of Medical
Services, eat any public medical institu-
tion, or in any p art of the Colony. He
will. in the first instance, he1 detailed

medical officer.

ment as Staff Nurses in the Tuberculo-
sis Division of the Health Department,
Trinidad and Tobago.
2. Appointment is subject to medical
fitness and on agreement for two yxiars
in the first instance with salary in the
scale of $720-$1,152 per annum plus a
Cost of Living Allowance. A coniienc-
ing salary above the minimum may be
paid according to post-giaduate ex-
perience. In addition, it is likely that
as :t result of salary regrading which
will be undertaken this ye(ar the emolu-
ments of the post may be increased.

THE EFFICIENCY MEDAL (AMENDMENT)
REGULATIONS.
(Gazetted 25th May, 19541.
1. Short title. These Regulations may be cited as the Efficiency Medal
(Amendment) Regulations, 1954, and shall be read as one with the Regulations
relating to the award of the Efficiency Medal made the 10th day of July, 1936, and
garatted the 21st day of July, 1936, (hereinafter referred to as the principal
Regulations).
2. Amendment of paragraph 4 of principal Regulations.
Sub-paragraph G of paragraph 4 of the principal Regulations is hereby deleted.
Made in accordance with the Royal Warrant dated 1st September, 1953, this
17th day of, May, 1954.

1. Short title. This Order may be cited as Agricultural W s
(Milor Crops) Wages Regulation Order, 1954.
2. Remuneration. The statutory minimum remu tn pyab o the
workers to whom the Wages Council (Agriculture) (Minor er, 1953
(S.R. & O. 1953, No. 38) applies, shall be in accordance with the provisions contained
in the Schedule to this Order.
3. Commencement. This Order shall come into force on the 24th day of
May, 1954.
Made by the Governor under section 10(4) of the Wages Council Ordinance,
1953 (No. 1 of 1953) this 16th day of May, 1954.

SCHEDULE.
WAGE RATES.
1. The minimum rate of remuneration payable to all workers paid daily
employed in the fields in connection with the cultivation of minor crops including
cotton, peanuts, sweet potatoes and other crops, shall be as follows :-
Male Female
98 cents per day 75 cents per day
Provided that where a worker is employed on piece-work the -employer shall be
deemed to pay wages at less than the minimum rate unless he shows that the piece
rate would yield to such worker, for eight hours of work, not less than the minimum
of wages prescribed.
HouRS OF WORK.
2. A day shall be considered to mean a period not exceeding eight hours.

PENSIONABLE OFFICES (NO. 2) ORDER.
(Gazetted 25th May, 1954).
1. Short title. This Order may be cited as the Pensionable Offices (No. 2)
Order, 1954.
2. Declaration. The office of Examiner of Accounts is hereby declared to
be a pensionable office within the meaning of section 2 (1) (b) of the Pensions
Ordinance, 1948, (No. 16 of 1948).
Made by the Governor in Council under section 2(1) (b) of the Pensions
Ordinance, 1948, (No. 16 of 1948) this 21st day of May, 1954.
