GRANT OF SKIMMED MILK TO
ST. VINCENT BY U.N.I.C.E.F.
It is notified for general information
that the United Nations International
Children's Emergency Fund has made
a grant of 120,780 lbs. (approximately
54 tons) for a two year period, of dried
skimmed milk to St. Vincent for free
distribution to needy school children,
expectant and nursing mothers and
infants throughout the Colony.
A programme of distribution is being
worked out, and it is proposed to start
this programme in June, 1954.

SUPPLEMENTARY FEDERAL LAW
FOR THE COMPENSATION OF VIC-
TIMS OF NATIONAL SOCIALIST
PERSECUTION.
The Federal German Government
have promulgated a law supplementing
legislation now in force in the Federal
Republic for Compensation to Victims
of National Socialist Persecution (pub-
lished in the "Bundesgesetzblatt" I,
No. 62 of September 21st, 1953). Its
provisions apply also to the Western
Sectors of Berlin.
2. Compensation under this law may
be claimed by any person who, during
the period January 30th, 1933 to May
8th, 1945, was persecuted because of his
anti-Nazi persuasion or for reasons of
his race, faith or philosophy of life and
who can satisfy the residential quali,4-
cations which are contained in Article 8,
in respect of :-
(a) damage to Life, Body, Health
and ,Liberty
(b) damage to certain Property
Rights
S(b) Stateless Persons and Political
Refugees, who are also expellees
as defined above.
(c) Persecutees on grounds of
nationality who were refugees
on October 1st, 1953.
4. In general claims may also be made
iby the heir of a deceased victim. Com-
pensation Claims Offices are to be set up
under the Laender Governments and
will be competent for the registration of
claims. Claims must be submitted in
the case of residents of the Federal Re-
public by October 1st, 1954, and persons
resident outside the Federal Republic
by October 1st, 1955.
5. Details regarding the presentation
of claims are contained in the Fourth
Section of the Law, copies of which may
be obtained from ihe Bundesanzeiger-
Verlags-GmbH, K6ln/Rhein, 1 (Post-
fach). Persons who after studying the
law consider that they may be eligible
for compensation and wish for further
advice should consult a lawyer practis-
ing in German law or one of the various
organizations and institutions special-
izing in this field regarding their position
and the procedure for submission of
claims, as Departments of Her Majesty's
Government cannot undertake to advise
claimants on these matters. The Diplo-
matic Mission of the Federal Republic
of Germany in London, 6, Rutland Gate,
Knightsbridge, S.W.7., is also prepared
to supply information and application
forms.

PLANT FIBRE CROPS FOR 'ST. VIN-
CENT'S GROWING HANDICRAFT
INDUSTRY.
The making of baskets, bags, mats,
hats etc., of fibre is becoming an import-
ant industry in St. Vincent. This handi-
craft industry if encouraged and devel-
oped will greatly assist in solving many
of our economic problems by providing
considerable useful employment and a
most welcome addition to our export
trade.
For this industry to develop and ex-
pand quickly it is vital that supplies of

The post does not at present carry

SURVEY SCHOOL, TRINIDAD.
Applications are invited from candi-
dates who possess the Higher School
Certificate with passes in iMathematics
and Physics or Chemistry for FIVE
Scholarships in Surveying at the Survey
School in Trinidad. After two years'
training candidates will be oxp cted to
sit for the Intermediate Examination
of the Royal Institution of Chartered
Surveyors Sub-division (V) (Land Sur-
vey).
The selected candidates will be obliged
to enter into an agre mient to serve the
Government of St. Vincent for five
years after qualifying.
Candidates will be expected to be in
Triiidad on 3rd Ma_ when the course
begins.
Five return passages, by sea, to Trin-
idad will be provided.
An allowance of 10/- a day for the
first 28 days and 7/6 thereafter will be
paid during the two years of tialiing.
Various other allowances are also pay-
able. Any further details required can
be obtained from the Superintendent of
Public Works.

The famous Black Vine is now also
among our collection but will not be
available until next year. It appears
that the reason why Black Viine lost its
popularity is due to the fact that the
yield had dropped. It is suggested that
the reason for this is that the vine.

This vine, however, does extremely
.well on fertile soil. Since during our
first harvesting of the small quantity of
the vine at Camden Park, some of the
individ aal potatoes weighed as much as
3 lbs. Persons who still have the Black
Vine should therefore plant it on their
best soils.
Cassava Stieks for Planting.
A limited quantity of 'sticks' of two
imported varieties which have been
found under experiment to give better
yields than local cassava will also be
distributed now free of charge. The
material is being multiplied and larger
quantities of planting material will be
available next year.
Corn Seeds for Planting.
About 500 lbs. of specially selected
corn seed for planting are available for
sale at 8c. per lb., shelled. No particu-
lar claims are made for this seed other
than that the cobs are carefully select-
ed. As a result of this selection on the
Station over the past two years, corn
yields have risen 25%. Further selec-
tion is continuing and will raise this
standard.

NOTICE is hereby given that an ap-
plication was on the 5th day of March,
1954, made by "Shell" Refining and
Marketing Company Limited, a British
Company, of St. Helen's Court, Great
St. Helen's, London, E.C. 3., England,
for a patent in respect of an invention
for improvements in and relating to
fuels for internal combustion engines.
This invention relates to fuels for
internal combustion engines containing
KINGSTOWN TOWN BOARD.
VACANT POST FOR A JUNIOR CLERK.
Applications are invited for the ap-
pointment of a Junior Clerk in the
office of the Kingstown Town Board.

scale $744 x $72-$960 x $84--1632 per
annual.

REWIRING OF PUBLIC LIBnRART
BUILDING, KINGSTOWN
Tenders are invited for the rewiring
of the Public Library Building, Kings-
town; the work includes the removal of
the old electrical wires.
2. Persons who are tendering for this
work may inspect the building on appli-
cation to the Librarian.
3. Tenders, in plained sealed envel-
opes, endorsed "Rewiring of Public
Library Building, Kingstoan", must
reach the Town Hall, Paul's Lot, not
later than 3.00 p.m., Saturday, 10th
April, 1954.
4. The Board do not bind themselves
to accept the lowest or any tender.

CUSTOMS (WAREHOUSE PROHIBITION) N

1. Short title. This Ndtice may be cited as the Customs (Warehouse
Prohibition) Notice, 1954,
2. Duty on certain goods to be paid on first importation, etc.
It is hereby notified that the Governor in Council in pursuance of the powers
conferred upon him by subsection (3) of section 24 of the Customs Ordinance
(Cap. 183) doth hereby direct that the duty on the goods enumerated in the
Schedule hereto shall be paid on the first importation thereof and that such goods
shall not be warehoused in a Government warehouse.

Colas-crude oil for road making.
Cold Storage Goods.
Fertilizers in respect of which no import duty is payable.
