PERSECUTION.

The Federal Germani Govern ment
have promulgated a law supplementing
legislation now in force in the Federal
Republic for Compensation to Victims
of National Socialist Pelst cution (pub-
lished in the Bundesgesetzblatt" I,
No. 62 of September 21st. 1953). Its
provisions apply also to the Western
Sectors of Berlin.
2. Compensation under this law may

PLANT FIBRE CROPS FOR ST. VIN-
CENT'S GROWING HANDICRAFT
INDUSTRY.

The making of baskets, bags, mats,
hats etc., of fibre is becoming an import-
ant industry in St. Vincent. This handi-
craft industry if encouraged and devel-
oped will greatly assist in solving many
of our economic problems by providing
considerable useful employment and a
most welcome addition to our export
trade.
For this industry to develop and ex-
pand quickly it is vital that supplies of
the raw materials should be available in
greatly increased quantities.
The main fibres used in local handi-
crafts come from the leaves of the
"Wild" or "Screw" Pine (Pandanus

internal combustion engines containing

INCOME TAX NOTICE.

TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.


Every person concerned, not teing a
Government Officer, is hereby reminded
that the latest date for the suibmiision
of Income Tax Returns for assessment
in the year 1954 is th, 31sI March, and
that failure to uive notice ofI har:itre-

Tax Ordinance, rendering lie person
concerned liable on conviction to a fine
not exceediiin FOUR IIUNDRED AND
EIGHTY DOLLARS.
2. EVERY PERSON whose income,
accruing in, derived from the Colony or
elsewhere and whether received in the
Colony or n'ot for the preceding year,
exceeded the statutory limit of $480 is
required to submit a return in the pre-
scribed form, notwithstanding that on
account of approved deductions no tax
may eventually be chargeable, and parti-
cular attention is direct ed to the fact
that the term "income" is deemed to
include not only money but also allow-
ances in kind.
3. Efforts are being made to send
blank return forms to such persons. It
is to be clearly understood, however,
that a person is not exonerated from the
statutory liability to make a return even
though that person may not have re-
ceived a blank form, which may be
obtained, on application, at the Revenue
Offices at Georgetown, Barrouallie,
Bequia and Union Island, or, in the
other districts from the Police Station
situate therein. These Forms may also
be obtained from the Income Tax Office,
Kingstown, where ;ny person requiring
information in connection therewith is
invited to enquire.
4. The form, correctly completed,
should Ie accompanied by all necessary
supporting statements. Specimens of
the form of account required from small
traders and from occupiers or cultivators
of land will be supplied on request.
