COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP AND
FELLOWSHIP PLAN:
POST-GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP IN
TROPICAL AGRICULTURE; 1974:
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO.

The Government of Trinidad and
Tobago has invited St. Vincent to nomi-
nate a suitably qualified graduate for
the award of a Commonwealth Scholar-
ship in Tropical Agriculture.
2. The Scholarship is tenable from
October 1974, at the University of the
West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad.
The award will be for two years in the
first instance.
3. The scholarship covers expenses
for travel, living and study. Family
allowances are payable, provided that
the scholar's family accompany him to
Trinidad and that his wife is not em-
ployed. No passages are provided for
dependents, however.
4. Applicants should not have
reached their 35th birthday by 1st
October, 1974. Preference will be
given to candidates between 22 and 28
years of age.
5. The successful candidate will be
required to sign a Bond, with sureties,
to return to St. Vincent for a specified
period, on completion of his studies.

6. Applications, on Form T1, should
be submitted to the Chief Personnel
Officer for attention of Training Offi-
cer by 31st October 1973. The names
and addresses of three referees, two of
them persons under whom the candi-
date has worked or studied, should be
submitted with the application forms.
Copies or certificates and/or diplomas
should also be attached.
7. Applications which are incom-
plete or not supported by the required
documents will not be entertained.

COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP AND
FELLOWSHIP PLAN AWARDS TO THE
UNITED KINGDOM AND CANADA
1973/74.
The Governments of the United
and Canada have invited nominations
from St. Vincent of suitably qualified
men and women, for the award of
Commonwealth Scholarships tenable at
Universities in the United Kingdom and
Canada. Awards will be available in
the academic year commencing Septem-
ber 1974.

or research and are open to graduates
of recognized universities.
3. Post graduate awards in medicine
are available under the United King-
dom Commonwealth Medical Award
Scheme.
4. Under special circumstances, and
where a particular undergraduate pro-
gramme is not available in the area,
applications for undergraduate award
may be considered. Vincentians may
therefore apply for undergraduate
courses in the following fields:
Agricultural Engineering
Drama,
Food Chemistry
The minimum requirement is three
'A' Levels, preferably with A-C
grades. No E grades will be accepted.
5. Applicants should not have
reached their 35th birthday by 1st
October, 1974 although in special cir-
cumstances this age limit may be
raised. Preference will in any case be
given to candidates between 22 and 28
years of age.
6. Awards will normally be made
for a period of two academic years, un-
less the course requirement demands
less. Medical awards are made for one
year in the first instance but may be


extended up to a maximum of three
years where the United Kingdom Com-
mission considers it appropriate.
7. Each scholarship covers expenses
for travel, living and study. A mar-
riage allowance is payable in the
United Kingdom and Canada, provided
the Scholar's spouse has accompanied
him/her and is not on scholarship or in
paid employment. Two-thirds of the
spouse's return fare is payable to
Canadian Commonwealth Scholars.
No provision is made for any depend-
ants' passages to the United Kingdom.
8. Successful candidates will be re-
quired to sign a Bond, with sureties to
return to St. Vincent on completion of
their studies for a specific period.
Applications, on Form Ti should be
submitted to the Chief Personnel Offi-
cer for attention of Training Officer,
by 31st October, 1973. The names and
addresses of three referees, two of
whom should be persons under whom
the candidate has studied or worked,
should be submitted with the applica-
tion forms. Copies of certificates or
diplomas should also be attached.
Applications which are incomplete or

PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING
SERVICES FOR FFEEDER ROADS
PROJECT-ST. VINCENT

The Government of St. Vincent
through the Ministry of Communica-
tions and Works, invites the submission
of pre-qualification data from in-
terested consulting engineering firms
in connection with the proposed con-
struction of Feeder Roads in St.
Vincent.
The scope of engineering work in-
cludes engineering surveys, the pre-
paration of the appropriate drawings
and specifications, as well as all con-
tract documents required for con-
struction t end er of the project,
supervision and inspection of con-
struction, and issuance of payment
certificates.
The proposed calls for the con-
struction and improvement of 261/4
miles of Feeder Roads. Approximately
14 miles involve the cutting of new
roads. It is intended that the roads
follow the existing tracks in order that
deviation and land acquisition be kept
to the minimum.
The preliminary design data for the
roads are as follows:-
Excavated Width 24 ft.
Base material 15 "
Paving 12
Shoulders 2 X 3"
Drains 2 X 3"
Horizontal Curvature 50 min:
Gradients-Maximum 1 in 7
Bridges to be single lane with deck
width of 11 ft. Passing places for
trucks to be provided at every 500 ft.
Bridges are to be left unreconstructed
wherever it is possible to do so. The
total cost of the project including
engineering design and supervision of
construction is expected to be of the
order of EC$2 million plus.
Consideration will be limited to
firms or Joint Ventures of firms whose
regular place of business is in:-
(a) The United States of America.
(b) Regional member countries
of the Caribbean Development
Bank (CDB) i.e. Jamaica,
Trinidad and Tobago, Baha-
mas, Guyana, Barbados,
Antigua, British Honduras,
Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts-
Nevis-Anguilla, St. Lucia, St:
V i n c e n t, Cayman Islands,
Turks and Caicos Islands, and
Montserrat.

(c) Non-regional member countries
of CDB, i.e. Canada and the
United Kingdom; and Vene-
zuela.
Financing of the project is expected
to be made by the Government of St.
Vincent and the Caribbean Develop-
ment Bank.
Qualification information submitted
for consideration should stress similar
types of work performed, and the
location thereof. Consulting firms,
whether acting singly or in Joint Ven-
tures should submit an executed copy
of a form which may be obtained from
the office of the Chief Technical Officer,
Ministry of Communications and
Works, Kingstown, St. Vincent, West
Indies, or from the Caribbean Develop-
ment Bank, Treasury Building, Bridge-
town, Barbados, West Indies:
Pre-qualification information must
be received not later than 15th October
1973 in the office of the Ministry of
Communication and Works, Kingstown,
St. Vincent, W.I.
In evaluating the data presented a
short list shall be prepared of three or
four firms or Joint Ventures who will
be requested to submit non-priced
technical proposals for the project.
An important consideration will be the
firms' or the Joint Ventures' who have
first hand knowledge of the sites and
working conditions in the region.
