ment of Mr. Moulton V. Williams,
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of
Trade, Agriculture and Grenadines
Affairs, to act as Secretary to Cabi-
net in conjunction with the duties
of his substantive post with effect
from 21st May, 1973 and until the
return of Mr. 0. E. Leigertwood, Per-
manent Secretary, Premier's Office,
Secretary to the Cabinet who is on
official duties abroad.

POST OF DIRECTOR OF CULTRUE,
MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT AND YOUTH AFFAIRS,
ST. VINCENT.
Applications are invited from suit-
ably qualified persons for appointment
to the new post of Director of Culture
in the Ministry of Education, Com-
munity Development and Youth
Affairs.
Applicants should have experience
in the broad fields of Art, Literature,
Dance, Drama and Music and should be
able to show proof of active involve-
ment in some of these fields. A degree
in a related field from a reputable
University will be an advantage.
The successful applicant will be
required to develop and harmonise the
various creative and performing arts
in St. Vincent and to work in close co-
operation with existing cultural groups.
The salary of the post will be in the
scale V6 at the flat rate of $10,200 per
annum. The post is at present not
pensionable but steps may be taken to
make it so. Appointment on contract
for not less than three (3) years will
also be considered in which event a
gratuity of 2.5', of salary will be pay-
able. If the successful applicant is
recruited from outside St. Vincent
arrangements will be made for payment
of passages for the appointee, his wife
and children not exceeding three if
they accompany him or follow him
within twelve months.

VACANT POSTS OF PRISON OFFICERS
PREMIER'S OFFICE
Applications are invited from suit-
ably qualified persons for appointment
as Prison Officers in the St. Vincent
Prison Service.
Candidates should be between the
ages of 23 and 35 years, should be at
least 5 ft. 9 inches in height with chest
at least 36 inheles (expanded) and
should have attained the Primary
School Leaving Certificate. Persons
possessing subjects at G.C.E. '0' Level
or its equivalent will be an asset.
Applications must be accompanied
by'at least three (3) testimonials, one
,of, which shimlIi be from present or
last employer.
Salary will be in the scale:-
$2,400 x $120-$2,520 x $180-$3,600 x
$240-$4,080.

NOTICES.
EDUCATION NOTICE
SCHOLARSHIP AND ENTRANCE
EXAMINATION-1973.
A competitive examination on which
scholarships will be awarded, and
pupils will be selected for admis-
sion to the two Government Second-
ary Schools will be held on Friday,
29th June, 1973 beginning at 9.00 a.m.
2. The Scholarships are open to
pupils attending Government, or Gov-
ernment Assisted or Registered Private
Schools which satisfy the requirements
of the Board of Education, and entitle
the holder to free tuition, games and
Library fees, and the necessary school
books and stationery. All Scholarship
holders, who normally reside not less
than two miles from the limits of
Kingstown measured by the shortest
public highway' shall be entitled to re-
ceive a maintenance grant at the rate
of One hundred and ninety-two dol-
lars per annum: Provided that should
a Scholarship holder cease so to reside,
for any period during the tenure of the
scholarship, no maintenance grant
shall be paid in respect of such period,
unless such scholarship holder is living
away from home for the purpose of
taking advantage of the scholarship.
3. A candidate for the award of
scholarship must:-
(a) be not less than 10 years 6
months nor more than 12 years
6 months old on the 30th Sep-
tember, 1973. Age must be
proved by a birth or baptismal
certificate.
(b) have attended a Government
or Government Assisted or a Re-
gistered Private School, which
satisfies the requirements of the
Board of Education, during the
twelve (12) months preceding
the 31st May 1973 for not less
than 759/ of the maximum at-
tendances possible during such
period, as shown in the Attend-
ance Register in the school;
(c) furnish certificate of good
conduct from the Head Teacher
or Head Teachers of such school
or schools;
(d) be natives of the colony, or
children of natives, or have been
resident in the colony for at
least two years;
4. The Chief Education Officer is
empowered to accept for examination
any candidate who through illness has
failed to comply with the requirements
of paragraph 3 (b) above, with respect
to the number of attendances;
5. No scholarship shall be awarded
to any candidate who obtain less than
one-third of the possible marks in each
subject, and less than one-half of the
total possible marks in the examina-
tion.
6. Scholarships are awarded for
a period of not more than six (6) years,
provided the scholars' attendance, con-
duct and progress as shown by the
term's report are considered satis-
factory.
7. Other candidates selected for
admission to the two Government
Secondary Schools, must not be less
than 10 years 6 months not more than
13 years 6 months on the 30th Septem-
ber, 1973, and must also satisfy the
same condition in paragraph 3 (c)
above with respect to certificate of
good conduct.
8. Candidates will be examined in
English (including Comprehension)
and Arithmetic, and shall be given an
Intelligence Test.
9. Head Teachers are requested to
submit the names of candidates who
may be eligible for the award of
scholarships, and also the names of
those for selection to the two Govern-
ment Secondary Schools as fee-paying
students on the prescribed forms,
which must reach the Chief Education
Officer, not later than Monday 28th
May, 1973.
10. Forms are available at the
Ministry of Education, Community
Development and Youth Affairs.
