ADVERTISEMENT FOR VACANT POST OF
TRAINEE SYSTEMS ANALYST / PROGRAM-
MER DATA PROCESSING DEPARTMENT
MINISTRY OF FINANCE



Applications are invited from suitably
qualified persons male or female within
and outside the St. Vincent Civil Ser-
-vice for appointment to the above post.

2. The duties of the post include:
a) Preparation, documentation and
implementation of Systems and
procedures which will be used
throughout Government and
which utilise directly or indi-
rectly computer time. The offi-
cer may also be required to
operate the computer equipment
when considered necessary.
b) Prepare, test and document
computer programmes from
written specifications and amend
and rewrite programmes to
meet new specifications.

3. Qualifications: T h e applicant
should be conversant with Government
accounting system, and with the organ-
isation of the Government service.

4. The qualities sought for in the
systems analyst/programmer are:-
a) Maturity, imagination, creative-
ness and receptiveness to new
ideas.
b) The ability to communicate with
other people in the presentation
of new systems.
c) Methodical working and precision.

d) The ability to work with a dis-
ciplined adherence to prescribed
standards.


e) The ability to work in a team.

It would be an advantage if
applicants have a knowledge of
the work of Government and Gen-
eral Data Processing duties.

5. Educational Standards: The ap-
plicant should be in possession of at
least three (3) '0' Level subjects in-
cluding Mathematics and English, or
the equivalent.

6. Training: Applicants on a short
list will be given a logic aptitude test,
and only those who attain the required
standard will be considered further.
The successful applicant will be ap-
pointed System Analyst/Programmer,
on probation and will receive practical
training in St. Vincent for approxi-
mately six to seven months.

On the satisfactory completion of
this period of practical training the offi-
cer will be sent to the I.C.I. training
school in Trinidad for a further residen-
tial course.

7. Salary Scale: V26-21-$3-,600 x
$240-$4,800, on satisfactory completion
of the probationary period the success-
ful candidate will be promoted to scale
V20-15-$5,100 x $300-$6,600.

8. Equipment and Scope of Data
Processing Department: the Depart-
ment is equipped with an ICL 1901
A. Computer Configuration, 16K. Core
Storage, Double Twin Discs.

9. The following are the routines
which are on the computer at present:-

a) Financial Accounting

b) Monthly Payroll of Civil Servants

c) Trade Statistics

d) P.W.D. Unallocated Sotres

e) Income Tax Assessments.

10. Applications accompanied by two
recent testimonials should be for-
warded to the Chief Personnel Officer,
Service Commissions Department, mark-
ed "EDP/STAFF" and should be re-
ceived not later than 26th July, 1972.

EDUCATION NOTICE

MINISTRY FOR EDUCATION,
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
AND YOUTH AFFAIRS

SAINT VINCENT TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

Applications are invited for courses
of study at the St. Vincent Technical
College, for the 1972-73 session com-
mencing on September 11, 1972.

FULL TIME COURSES

Departments of Engineering and
Building
Gene 'al Technical Courses.

These courses are designed for the
training of Junior Supervisors or Fore-
men in the various trades in industry.
The training will consist of full-time
courses of two years duration.
The courses will be of a general na-
ture covering the fields of:-
(a) General Engineering
(b) General Building
Entry Qualifications
Applicants for the GENERAL TECHNI-
CAL COURSES should have:
Completed a full secondary education
course and have a t least three G.C.E.
'0' Level passes or equivalent, includ-
ing English, Mathematics and one Sci-
ence subject. Applicants who have
completed a full secondary education to
'O0' Level standard, but who do not have
the above academic qualifications will be
required to pass an entrance examina-
tion.
The fee for each course is $90 per
term payable in advance.

Department of Commerce
(a) Secretarial Course
This is a full time course of one year's
duration provided for the training of
Shorthand Typists.
Entry Qualifications
Applicants for the Secretarial Course
must have completed a full secondary
school education and possess at least a
G.C.E. '0' Level certificate in English
Language or its equivalent.
Applicants who have completed a full
secondary education course to '0' Level
standard, but who do not have the above
academic qualifications will be required
to write an entrance examination.


Fees.
The fee for the course is $90 per
term, payable in advance.
(b) Clerical Course
This is a full-time course of one year's
duration, provided for the training of
Clerk/Typists.
Entry Qualifications
Applicants for the Clerical Course
must be at least fifteen years of age and
possess a Primary School Leaving Cer-
tificate. Applicants who have completed
a full primary education course, but who
do not have a Primary School Leaving
Certificate will be required to write an
entrance examination.
Fees
The fee for the course is $60 per term,
payable in advance.

DEPARTMENT OF HOTEL TRADES
Hotel Receptionists/Clerks Course.
This is a full-time course of one year's
duration provided for the training of
Hotel Receptionists or Clerks. Included
in the course will be such subjects as
Hotel Organisation, Type-writing, Book-
keeping and Office Practice.
Entry Qualifications
Applicants for the Hotel Reception-
ists/Clerks course must be at least fif-
teen years of age and possess a Primary
School Leaving Certificate. Applicants
who have completed a full Primary
Education Course, but do not have a
Primary School Leaving Certificate will
be required to write an entrance exam-
ination.
Fees.
The fee for the course is $60 per term,
payable in advance.
Waiters, Bartenders, Bell-boys and
Room-maids Course.
These are-Block Release courses each
of three months duration offered to
school-leavers and other young persons
wishing to enter the hotel industry as
waiters, bartenders, bell-boys and room-
maids. The courses will provide a prac-
tical introduction to the trade as well
as offer instruction in related vocational
studies.
Entry Qualifications
No special entry qualifications are re-
quired for these courses, but applicants
must be at least fifteen years of age and
have completed a Primary School Edu-
cation.
Fees.
The fees for each course is $15.

EVENING COURSES.


(a) Commercial Courses

Commercial courses requiring atten-
dance at the College for two evenings
each week, will be offered to persons em-
ployed in commercial and business or-
ganisations, who wish to increase their
proficiency in the office skills. Individual
courses will be provided in the special-
ised subjects of Book-keeping, Short-
hand, Typewriting and Commercial
Arithmetic.

Fees.

The fee for each course is $15 per
term, payable in advance.

(b) Engineering, Building and
Hotel Trades Courses.

Courses requiring attendance for
two evenings each week will be offered
to persons already employed in the fol-
lowing fields, and who wish to upgrade
their proficiency:
(a) Machine Shop practice, Welding
Forging and sheet metal work.
(b) Motor Vehicle, Mechanics' work,
repair and maintenance of En-
gines.
(c) Electrical Installation work, Elec-
trical wiring, basic servicing of
electrical equipment.
(d) Repair, maintenance and servic-
ing of air-conditioning and re-
frigeration equipment. Installa-
tion of Plant.
(e) Carpentry and Joinery, Masonry
and Concrete Practice, Plumbing
and Pipe-fitting.
(f) Drawing
(g) Hotel Trades.

The scope and content of the courses
will be decided on after discussions with
applicants.

The fee for each course is $15.

cipal of the Saint Vincent Technical
College or the Ministry of Education,
Community Development and Youth
Affairs, and must be returned duly com-
pleted to the Ministry of Education,
