OF THE LAND ACQUISITION ORDINANCE, 1946.
(No. 22 of 1946).
PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION.
(Under Section 4 of the Ordinance)
(FIRST PUBLICATION.)
WHEREAS it is enacted by Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Ordinance
(No. 22 of 1946) that if the Governor considers that any land may be required
for a public purpose and it is necessary to make a preliminary survey or other
investigation of the land, he may cause a notification to that effect to be pub-
lished in the Gazette:

AND WHEREAS the Governor considers that a portion of land approximately
half an acre in the Parish of Charlotte the property said to belong to Mr.
Norton Bess is likely to be acquired for a public purpose, to wit, the laying
out of a public road:
AND WHEREAS it is necessary to make a preliminary survey of the said
portion of land;
Now THEREFORE this is to require all persons interested to allow the
Authorised Officer (and his agents, assistants and workmen) :
(a) to enter upon and survey and take levels of any land in any locality to
which notification relates;
(b) to dig or bore into the subsoil of such land;
(c) to do all other acts necessary to ascertain whether the land is adapted
to such purpose;
(d) to set out the boundaries of the land intended to be taken, and the
intended line of the work, if any, proposed to be done thereon;
(e) to mark levels and lines by placing marks and cutting trenches;
(f) where otherwise the survey cannot be completed, the levels taken or
the boundaries or line of work set out, to cut down and clear away
any standing crop, fence, tree or bush';
(g) to do all such other acts as may be incidental to, or necessary for, any
of the purposes aforesaid.

VACANT POST OF ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR;
ELECTRICAL DIVISION; PUBLIC WORKS
DEPARTMENT, MINISTRY OF COMMUNICA-
TIONS AND WORKS, ST. VINCENT
Applications are invited from suit-
ably qualified persons for appointment
to the above-mentioned post.
Qualifications:
Higher National Diploma or Higher
National Certificate qualification or
the equivalent will be required with
five years experience in inspectorate
work.
Graduate qualification with suitable
experience may be given preference
and salary consideration.
Salary:
The salary of the post is in the
scale V 14-12 $6,960 x $360-$7,680.
Transport allowance will be payable
in accordance with local regulations.
Duties:
The Inspector will be responsible for
the Inspection of all Public Electrical
Installations throughout the State of
St. Vincent and for the issuing of
certificates for such installations.
He will also be responsible for the
maintenance of all Government in-
stallations and will be required to
take charge of the Public Works De-
partment's Electrical Division.
Appointment:
The appointment to the above post
may be either on a permanent and
pensionable basis or on agreement for
a period of three (3) years.
Applicants should furnish evidence
of qualifications, competence and abil-
ity together with two (2) recent testi-
monials and should forward these to
the Chief Personnel Officer, Service
Commissions Department, Kingstown,
St. Vincent, to reach him not later
than 1st July, 1972.

COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP AND
FELLOWSHIP PLAN:
AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND, 1973
Applications are invited from suitably
qualified persons for the award of schol-
arships to Australia and New Zealand
under the Commonwealth Scholarship &
Fellowship Plan, for the academic year
beginning March 1973.

2. New Zealand is offering only post-
graduate awards, but Australia is also
willing to consider undergraduate ap-
plications in fields not available in the
West Indies.
3. Graduate applications are invited
for research in any field. Undergraduate
applications for Australia are invited in
the following fields:-
Agricultural Engineering
Drama
Computer Science
Geography
Veterinary Science
The qualifications for undergradu-
ate award are two good 'A' Levels
gained at one sitting, and at least three
'0' Levels including English Language.
The Advanced Level subjects must bear
some relation to the academic specialis-
ation sought.
4. Awards are normally for two aca-
demic years, to persons under 35 years
of age. Preference will be given to can-
didates between 22 and 28 years. No
provision is included for the travel ex-
penses of any dependants, but a mar-
riage allowance is payable under certain
conditions.
5. Successful candidates will be re-
quired to sign a Bond with Surctics.
6. Copies of certificates and the
names and addresses of three referees
should accompany the applications. Two,
referees must be persons under whom
the applicant has studied and/or work-
ed.
7. Closing date for the receipt of ap-
plications, on Form Tl, at the Service
Commissions Department, is July 8th,
1972.

POLICE NOTICES
THE OWNERS OF PUBLIC
SERVICE VEHICLES; GOODS
VEHICLES AND TRAILERS
(H.T., R. & T. PLATES)
The attention of persons who own the
type of vehicles mentioned above is
drawn to the provisions contained in
Regulations 20 and 21 and all amend-
ments thereto of the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic Regulations 1959, whereby
-no licence may be issued or renewed for
:such vehicles unless the Inspector certi-
fies that the vehicle complies with all
the provisions of the Ordinance and
these Regulations.
The Inspector of Motor Vehicles will
be available at Police Headquarters
daily from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. except
on Sunday and Public Holidays to en-
sure that all the abovementioned vehicles
are inspected and are road-worthy be-
fore 31st July, 1972.
Regulations 20 (6) requires that these
vehicles are examined twice annually,
that is before 30th June and 31st De-
cember each year.
WARNING
Vehicles which have not been pre-
sented or if presented have not passed
the examination by 31st July, 1972 will
be taken off the road.

The Public is hereby reminded that in
accordance with the Birds and Fish Pro-
tection Ordinance Cap. 44 as amended, it
is prohibited t6 kill or take:-
TURTLES
(a) Turtles or turtle eggs on land
(b) Turtles under 20 lbs. in weight
LOBSTERS
(a) Lobsters carrying eggs
(b) Lobsters of less than 1 lb. in
weight
(c) Lobsters of less than nine inches
in length.
CLOSED SEASONS:
There is a closed season for turtles
between 1st May and 31st July, and a
closed season for lobsters between 1st
May and 30th September.
Any person failing to comply with the
regulations mentioned above, will be
fined $24.00 or in default imprisonment
with or without hard labour for a term
not exceeding 3 months.
