EDUCATION NOTICE
SCHOLARSHIPS AND ENTRANCE
EXAMINATIONS-1972
A competitive examination on which
(1) scholarships will be awarded, and
*(2) pupils will be selected for admis-
sion to the two Government Secondary
Schools will be held on Friday 7th
July, 1972, beginning at 9.00 a.m.
2. The Scholarships are open to
pupils attending Government, or Gov-
ernment Assisted or Registered
Private Schools which satisfy the
requirements of the Board of Educa-
tion, and entitle the holder to free
tuition, games and Library fees, and
the necessary school books and station-
ery. All Scholarship holders who
during the tenure of a Scholarship
normally reside not less than two (2).

way, shall be entitled to receive the
maintenance grant at the rate of
One hundred and ninety-two dollars
($192.00) per annum, provided that
should a scholarship holder cease so to
reside, for any period during the tenure
of the scholarship, no maintenance grant
shall be paid in respect of such period,
unless such scholarship holder is living
away from home for the purpose of tak-
ing advantage of the scholarship.
3. A candidate for the award of
scholarship must:- (a) be not less
than 10 years 6 months nor more than
12 years 6 months old on the 30th
Septemben;.'1972. Age must be proved
by a birth or baptismal certificate;
(b) have attended a Government or
Government Assisted or a Registered
Private School, which satisfies the re-
quirements of the Board of Education,
during the twelve (12) months preced-
ing the 31st May, 1972, for not less
than 75% of the maximum attendances
possible during such period, as shown
in the Attendance Register in the;
school;
(c) furnish certificate of good con-
duct from the Head Teacher or Head
Teachers of such school or schools;
(d) be natives of the state, or
children of natives, or have been resi-
dent in the state for at least two
years;
4. The Chief Education Officer is
empowered to accept for examination
any candidate who through illness has
failed to comply with the requirements
of paragraph 3 (b) above, with respect
to the number of attendances;
5. No scholarship shall be awarded
to any candidate who obtains le.,s than
o:'e-third of the possible marks in each
subject, and not less than one-half of the
total possible marks in the examin-
ation.
6. Scholarships are awarded for a
period of not more than six (6) years,
provided the scholars' attendance, con-
duct and progress as shown by the
term's report are considered satisfac-
tory.
7. Other candidates selected for
admission to the two Government Sec-
ondary Schools, must not be less than
10 years 6 months nor more than 13
years 6 months on the 30th September,.
1972, mid must also satisfy the same
condition in paragraph 3 (c) above
with respect to certificate of good
conduct.
8. Candidates will be examined in
English, (including ComprehenQ"on)
and Arithmetic, and shall be given an
Intelligence Test.
9. Head Teachers are requested to,
submit the names of candidates who
may be eligible for the award of ;Lchol-
arships, and also the names of those
for selection to the two Goverr .ne.t
Secondary Schools as fee-paying stu-
dents on the pr-orribed forms, which
must reach the Chief Educntion Officer,
not later than 12th June, 1972.
10. Forms are available at the Min-
istry for Education, Community Devel-
opment and Youth Affairs.
