WEST INDIES SCHOLARSHIP
SCHEME (WISS):
AWARDS TO U.W.I. 1971/72
Subject to the availability of funds
under the West Indies Scholarship
Scheme, applications are invited from
suitably qualified persons for awards
to pursue courses at the University of
the West Indies from the academic year
1971/72.
2. Awards are available for courses
at the Cave Hill and St. Augustine cam-
puses, and for Medicine or Special Hon-
ours Degrees at the Mona campus.
3 .Applications from undergraduate
students will not be entertained unless
accompanied by evidence of dire finan-
cial need and by an indication of the
student's progress during the years)
already spent at the University.
4. Applicants must have received
direct admission to the Faculty of their
choice. The letter of acceptance must
be submitted with the TI Application
Form.
5. Entrants to N1 courses in Arts and
Science may be considered, but prefer-
ence will be given to those students with
full admission to a three-year, or a
Special Honours, course. Students who
have completed the N1 Science year on
their own and who have now gained
admission to the Faculties of Agricul-
ture, Engineering or Medicine, are
eligible to apply. The letter of accept-
ance must be submitted with the T1
Application Form.
6. West Indies Scholarship Scheme
awards cover all fees; vacations are
provided for according to the campus
vacation residence rates; a Book &
Clothing Allowance is payable.
7. For the 1971/72 Academic Year,
awards are offered in the following
fields:
a) Agriculture t
Economics (with Statistics)
Engineering
Law
Medicine
General
b) For' teachers or those intend-
ing to return to teach:
Special Honours Degrees in
English, Maths., Physics,
Chemistry.
General Degrees including one
or more of the following sub-
jects :

(B.A.) English, History, Geog-
raphy
(B.Sc. or B.A.) Mathematics
8. Successful candidates will be re-
quired to sign a Bond with sureties, to
serve in the State for at least five years
after completion of training.

Applicants for Ordinary levels will
normally be required to offer those
subjects only for which they were
recommended at the last Qualifying
Tests held by the Department of
Education. Candidates, however, who
wish to complete minimum University
Entrance requirements may be allowed
to offer the necessary subjects) at
Advanced level.

the Grammar School. Classes will be-
offered at '0' level in English Language,
English Literature, Mathematics, Geog-

2. Candidates for '0' level subjects
must have passed the Grade 3 Pupil
Teachers' Examination or completed the
equivalent of fifth form work in the
subject.
3. The fees are one dollar ($1.00)
per subject per term. A refund will be
made of the full fee paid by applicants
who subsequently withdraw when the
results of the 1971 G.C.E. examination
are known on condition that notice of
intention to withdraw is given to the
Chief Education Officer before the first
class begins.
4. Registration closes on Wednesday,
22nd September, 1971.
