EDUCATION NOTICES.
A competitive examination for the
award of scholarships for boys and girls
tenable at the Grammar School and
Girls' High School will be held at the
Richmond Hill Government School on
Friday, 7th July, 1967.
2. The Scholarships are open to
pupils attending Government or Assist-
ed Primary Schools or Private Schools
which satisfy the requirements of the
Board of Education, and entitle the
holder to free tuition, games and
Library fees and the necessary school
books and stationery. All Scholarship
holders, who during the tenure of a
scholarship normally reside not less
than two miles from the limits of
Kingstown measured by the shortest
public highway, shall be entitled to
receive the maintenance grant at the
rate of one hundred and ninety-two
dollars ($192.00) per annum; provided
that should a scholarship holder cease
to reside, for any period during the
tenure of the scholarship, no mainten-
ance grant should be paid in respect
of such period, unless such scholarship
holder is living for the purpose of tak-
ing advantage of the scholarship.
3. Candidates must (a) have been
less than 12 years of age on the 31st
July, 1967. Age must be proved by a
birth certificate or baptismal certificate;
(b) have attended a Government or
Assisted Primary School which satisfies
the requirements of the Board of Edu-
cation, during the twelve months pre-
ceding the 31st July, 1967 for not less
than 75% of the maximum attendances
possible during such period, as shown
in the attendance Register kept in the
school; (c) furnish a certificate of good
conduct Erom the Head Teacher or
Head Teachers of such school or
schools; (d) be natives of the territory
or children of natives or have been resi-
dent in the territory for at least two
years.
4. The Education Officer is em-
powered to accept for examination any
candidate who, through illness has
failed to comply with the requirements
of paragraph 3(b) above, with respect
to the number of attendances.
5. No scholarship shall be awarded
to any candidate who obtains less than
one third of the possible marks in each
subject and less than one-half of the
total possible marks in the examination.
6. Scholarships are awarded for a.
period of not more than six years pro-
vided the Scholar's attendance, conduct
and progress as shown by the term re-
ports are considered satisfactory.
7. Candidates will be examined in
English (including Comprehension) and
Arithmetic, and shall be given an In-
telligence Test.
8. Applications accompanied by Birth
or Baptismal Certificates must reach the
Education Office not later than Wednes-
day, 7th June, 1967.

The attention of the general public is
drawn to Section 71 Sub. Sections (1)
(2) and (3) of the Legislative Council
election Ordinance No. 13 of 1951.
(1) Subject to the provisions of sub-
section (2) of this section during the
hours when the poll is open upon elec-
tion day, no persons shall assemble or
con(fregate within one hundred yards
of aul building in which is situate any
polling station.
(2) This section shall not apply:-
(a) to .any electors who are wait-
incg to 1oll their votes at such
polling station and who obey
any instructions which be
given by the presiding officer
or any constable for purpose
of forming a queue with
other electors also waiting,
or,
(b) to any person who may
under the provisions of Or-
dinance lawfully enter or re-
main in such polling station.
(3) Every person who contravenes or
fails to comply with any of the pro-
visions of this section shall be guilty of
vn offence against this section and shall
be liable on summary conviction there-
for to a fine of two hundred and forty
dollars or to imprisonment for six
months or to both such fine and im-
pr isonment.
