CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR MESSAGES.
The following texts of Christmas and New Year Messages from the Ministry
of Transport and Civil Aviation and the Secretary of State for the Colonies are
published for general information:-
FROM TTTE MINISTER OF TRANSPORT AND CIVIL AVIATION.
"As Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, I am again privileged to
send greetings and best wishes to all 0flicers and Men of the Merchant Navy,
who are spending Christmas as guests of Merchant Navy Clubs and hostels in
ports throughout the world. To the staff and many voluntary workers of these
clubs and hostels,, I send my warm good wishes. They have as usual made
special efforts to provide hospitality and good cheer, so that although you are
separated from your families and friends you may celebrate Christmas in the
traditional way. I know you will wish to join me in thanking all those who
have made this possible, and who have worked so loyally for the welfare of
seafarers throughout the years.

CONDITIONS OF CONTRACT.
1. The contract to be from 1st Janu-
ary, to 31st December, 1058.
2. The Contractor undertakes to dc--
liver at his own expense into the Store;
of Institutions the articles placed
opposite his name at the price stated,
on such days, at such times, and in such
quantities as may be stated cn the re-
quisitions of the Head of the Department
or Officer in Charge.
3. Firewood for the Extension Hospi-
tal, Montrose, Leper Asylum, Fort Char-
lotte, Mental Horpital, Villa and Pauper
Asylum, Glen, to be delivered stacked at
the respective places named.
4. Every article supplied must be of
a sound, gcod quality, and no article is
to be substituted for the one requisi-
tioned for .without the consent of the
requisitioning officer first obtained.
5. Any articles considered by the Head
of Department or Olicer in Charge to
be of inferior quality may be rejected by
him, and shall be immediately removed
and replaced by the Contractor at his
own expense without any allowance be-
ing made to him for such articles.
6. If the rejected articles arc not re-
moved within 9 hours from the time
notice shall have been given to the
Contractor, they will be returned to, and
at the expense of the Contractor; pro-
vided that if the Contractor gives such
explanation as may be satisfactory to
the Administrator, the expense of such
return shall not be charged.
7. Should the Contractor neglect or
refuse to replace rejected articles or to

regulations.
6. Free unfurnished quarters will
be provided, and an advance of -alary
not exceeding 259 sterling ($1,200
B.W.I.) repayable within a period of
three (3) years, will be obtainable.
7. Free passages will be provided for
the officer, and also for his wife and not

more than three children under the age
of eighteen years who are unmarried
and are dependent upon him provided
that they accompany him or join him in
the Colony within twelve months of his

1. Short title. This Notice may be cited as the Prices Control
(Amendment No. 4) Notice.
2. Amendment. The prices set out hereunder are the Maximum

First Schedule-Part B. to the Prices Control Order 1947 (S.R. & 0. No. 25)
is hereby amended by deleting all the words, figures and symbols occurring in
