No. 367.
ANNOUNCEMENT,
The West Indies (Federation) Order
in Council, 1957, which was laid before
Parliament in accordance with the pro-
visions of the British Caribbean Federa-
tion Act, 1956, and has been approved
by resolution of both Houses, has now
been made by Her Majesty in Council.
It is announced by the Secretary cf
State for the Colonies that arrange-
ments are being made for the Right
Honourable Lord Hailes, Governor-Gen-
eral designate of the West Indies, to
arrive in Trinidad, the seat of the Fed-
eral Government, early in January,
1958. In accordance with provisions of
the Order in Council on Lord Hailes'
arrival and assumption of Office, the
Federation will be formally established,
and interim provisions of Federal Con-
stitution contained in the Order in
Council will be brought into operation.
Lord Hailes proposes, on the recommen-
dation of the Standing Federation Com-
mittee in the West Indies, to fix the date
for the Federal election in all territories
comprising the Federation, as Tuesday.

Applications are invited from suitably
qualified candidates for appointment to
the post of Agricultural Officer (Exten-
sion), Department of Agriculture, St.
Vincent, particulars of which are as fol-
lows:-
Appointment:
The post is pensionable, but the
appointment will be on a contractual
basis or on secondment, for a period
of 2 years in the first instance. The
pension rights of any pensionable
seconded officer will be preserved,
Duties:
The duties of the officer will be those
assigned to him by the Superintendent
of Agriculture to whom he will be
directly responsible. Such duties will
include the direction of Agricultural
Extension and Soil Conservation pro-
grammes, as well as general work of
an administrative nature.
Qualifications:
The minimum qualification required
is the Diploma of the Imperial College
of Ti epical Agriculture or an equiva-
lent degree, with experience in Tropi-
cal Agriculture, General Administra-
tive experience and knowledge of ex-
tension work would be advantageous.
Salary:
The salary is in the scale $3,360
x $120-$4,320, :-lus a pay addition of
20% of salary.
Allowances:
Travelling and Subsistence Allow-
ances are payable in accordance with
local regulations, in respect of ap-
proved travel on duty.

ment as Staff Nurses in the Tuberculosis
Division of the Health Department,
Trinidad and Tobago.
2. Appointment is subject to medical
fitness, on agreement for two years in the
first instance with salary in the scale
$900 x $60-$1,200 x $120-$1,560 per an-

effect from the date of assumption of
duty. A commencing salary above the
minimum of the scale may be paid on
the basis of one increment for each year
of approved post graduate experience

equivalent or superior certificate, and

post of Assistant Government Chemist
in the Government Chemists Depart-
merit, Trinidad and Tobago.
Salary: $3,600 x $120-$4,320 x $240-
$6,000 per annum.
Duties: Mainly analytical and super-
visory. The work is varied and interest-
ing and consists of the analysis of food
and drugs and commercial samples,
forensic and toxicological analysis,
training of junior personnel, and such
other duties as directed by the Govern-
ment Chemist.
Qualifications: Applicants should
possess an honours degree in Chemistry
or the Fellowship or Associateship of
the Royal Institute of Chemistry or
other equivalent qualifications.

ASSISTANT AGRICULTURAL SUPERINTENDENTS.
BRITISH GUIANA.
Two vacancies exist for Assistant
Agricultural Superintendents pension-
able, on the salary scale $3,408 x $144-
$3,840 x $144-$4,560 per annum: initial
salary commensurate with profession
qualifications and post-qualification ex-
perience. Appointment is subject to
medical fitness and to a probationary
period of two years.
Duties: These relate primarily to the
Extension Service of the Department.
Officers will be required to live in rural
districts and will be responsible to an
Agricultural Superintendent or duly
authorised senior officer for Departmen-
tal services to farmers, which include
supervision of demonstration stations
and nurseries; execution of programmes
for improving the efficiency of farms;
general agricultural development includ-
ing service on Regional Development
Committees; investigation and supervi-
sion of agricultural loans and grants;
Administration of Agricultural legisla-
tion; promotion and co-ordination at
district level of specialist services of the
Department e.g. Agricultural Education
in primary schools, Rural Youth Clubs,
Artificial Insemination Service, Agricul-
tural Economic Surveys, etc., and such
other duties as may from time to time
be assigned.
Qualifications: A B.Sc. degree in
Agriculture, the D.I.C.T.A. or a diploma
in Agriculture acceptable as the equi-
valent normally obtainable in three
years or long and meritorious service
in a comparable capacity in an Agricul-
tural Department. Preference will be
given to candidates possessing both the
stated qualification and suitable expe-
rience.

THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL (ELECTIONS) ORDINANCE, 1951
(SECTION 21.)
NOTICE OF NOMINATION.
His Honour the Administrator having issued his writs for the Election of
members of the Legislative Council for the Electoral Districts of the Colony the
Returning Officers of the said Districts will on the 27th day of August, 1957 now
next ensuing between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon at the places hereinafter
mentioned proceed to the nomination, and if there is no opposition, to the election
of members for the said Electoral Districts.
Forms of Nomination Papers may be obtained at the Offices of the Returning
Officers between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily except on Wecdnesdays when
the Offices will be closed at 12 noon (Sundays also excepted).
Every Nomination Paper must be signed by any six or more electors qualified
to vote in the Electoral District for which a candidate is seeking election, and
be handed to the Returning Officer between the said hours of 9 a.m. and noon.
No Nomination Papers shall be valid or acted upon by the Returning Officer
unless it is accompanied by-
(a) the consent in writing of the person therein nominated,
(b) a deposit of one hundred and twenty dollars in cash, and
(c) the required statutory declaration, Form 26 or 26A.
In the event of the election being contested the Poll will take place between
the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday the 12th day of September, 1957.
