DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION OF LAND.
(FIRST PUBLICATION.)
WHEREAS it is enacted by Section 3 of the Land Acquisition Ordinance, 1946,
(No. 22 of 1946) that if the Governor in Council considers that ziy land should
be acquired for a public purpose he may cause a declaration to that effect to be
made:
AND WHEREAS it is considered by the Governor in Council that the undermen-
tioned parcels of land should be acquired for a public purpose, to wit, the estab-
lishment of a Housing Scheme by the Central Housing and Planning Authority
under the Slum Clearance and Housing Ordinance No. 1 of 1946:
Now IT Is HEREBY DECLARED by His Excellency the Governor acting by and in
accordance with the advice of the Executive Council of the Colony of Saint Vincent
that upon the Second Publication of this Notice in the Gazette, the several parcels
of land at Grand Sable in the Parish of Charlotte, the property of Ian Child,
more particularly described in the Schedule hereto, shall vest absolutely in the
Crown.

NOTICE OF PRELIMINARY SURVEY.
(Under Section 4 of the Ordinance.)

WHEREAS it is enacted under section 4 of the Land Acquisition Ordinance,
1946 (No. 22 of 1946) that if it appears to the Governor in Council that any land
Is likely to be required for any public purpose which in the opinion of the
Governor in Council, is a public purpose and it is necessary to make a preliminary
survey or other investigation of the land, he may cause a notification to that
effect to be published in the Gazette:
AND WHEREAS the Governor in Council considers that a portion of land at
Georgetown in the Parish of Charlotte measuring approximately 4,000 square
feet in area being the property of the Heirs of Laura Gray, as further described
In the Schedule hereunder, is likely to be acquired for a public purpose, to wit,
the extension and improvement of the Georgetown Police Station:
AND WHEREAS it is necessary to make a preliminary survey and other investi-
gations of the said portion of land:
Now THEREFORE, this is to require ALL PERSONS INTERESTED to allow
Mr. H. R. Wason, the Authorised Officer (and his agents, assistants and workmen)
to do all or any of the following things, that is to say:-
(a) to enter upon and survey and take levels of the said portion of land
in the above mentioned locality;
(b) to set out the boundaries of the land intended to be acquired;
(c) where otherwise the survey cannot be completed or the boundaries set
out or levels taken, to cut down and clear away any standing crop, fence,
tree or bush;
(d) to do all such other acts as may be. incidental to or necessary for any of
the purposes aforesaid.

ALL that portion, lot or parcel of land situate at Georgetown in the Parish
of Charlotte bounded on the North by the lands of Laura Gray, on the South
partly by lands of Charles Grant and partly by the lands of the Heirs of McLeod

The post is on the permanent and
pensionable establishment and the ap-
pointment carries with it liability to
transfer to any post of equivalent sta-
tus in the Windward Islands.
2. Salary:
The salary is in the scale of $3,840 x
$120-$4,560 per annum, plus a pension-
able pay addition of 20% of salary. The
point of entry into the scale will be
determined according to the candi-
date's qualification and experience.
3. Qualifications Required:
Degree of a recognized University.
4. Duties:
Officer appointed will be required to
supervise a school of 260 boys;
Knowledge of Games and all other
extra-curricular activities associated
with a Secondary School;
He will be required to take part in
out of school activities;
He will also be required to perform'
any other duties which may be assigned
to him from time to time.
5. Quarters:
Quarters are not provided.
6. Leave:
The officer will be eligible for vaca-
tion leave at the rate of 45 days for
each completed period of 12 months
residential service, accumulating up
to a maximum of 180 days.
7. Leave Passages:
Leave passages will be provided in
accordance with Local General Orders.
8. General Information:
The officer will be subject to the Colo-
nial Regulations, the Windward Islands
Financial and Store Rules, the local
General Orders and subsidiary legisla-
tion in force from time to time. Gov-
ernment officials are liable to taxation
imposed by local enactments.

AGRICULTURAL OFFICER (RESEARCH)
CAMDEN PARK EXPERIMENTAL
STATION.
Applications are invited from suitably
qualified candidates for appointment to
the post of Agricultural Officer (Re-
search) Camden Park Experimental
Station, Department of Agriculture, St.
Vincent, particulars of which are as fol-
lows:-
Appointment:
The pcst is non-pensionable, and the
appointment will be on a contractual
basis, or on secondment, for a period
of 21/2 years in the first instance. The
pension rights of any pensionable
seconded officer will be preserved.
Duties:
The duties of the office will be those
assigned to' him by the Superintendent
of Agriculture to whom he will be
directly responsible. The duties will
include the general administration of
the 100 acre Camden Park Experiment
Station with the direction and super-
vision of subordinate staff. Investiga-
tional work with all aspects of cultiva-
tion and testing of a wide range of cash
crops and food crops and the compiling
of the necessary statistics. Supervision
of the management of livestock, com-
prising breeding stock of battle, pigs,
goats, sheep and poultry on the Station.
Qualifications:
The minimum qualification required
is the Diploma of the Imperial College
of Tropical Agriculture or an equiva-
lent degree, with experience In Tropi-
cal Agriculture. General administra-
tion experience and knowledge of
applied research and extension work
would be advantageous.
Salary:
The salary is in the scale $3,360 x
$120--$4,320, plus a pay addition of
20% of salary.
Allowances:
Travelling and Subsistence Allow-
ances are payable in accordance with
local regulations, in respect of ap-
proved travel on duty.

assessed value of the quarters, which-

case of a contract appointment, free

granted at the rate of one week for
each completed period of three months

for appointment to the post of Super-
numerary Verterinary Officer for Gren-
ada, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent, particu-

Appointment:
The post is at present non-pension-
able. The officer will be subject to the
Colonial Regulations, local General
Orders, Financial and Store Rules and
all such regulations, as may from time
to time be in force.
Salary:
The salary is in the scale of $3,840 x
$120-$4,800 (800 x 25-1,000) per an-
num plus a pay addition of 20% of
salary.
Allowances: /
Travelling and subsistence allow*
ances will be payable in accordance
with local regulations in respect of ap-
proved travel on duty.
Quarters are not provided, but in the
event of Government quarters being
available the officer will be required to
pay rental not exceeding 10% of his
salary.

pensionable post of Veterinary Assistant,
Department of Agriculture, St. Vincent.
The salary of the post is at the rate of
$1,104 per annum in the scale of $1,104 x
$72-$1,392 plus the additional payment
of 20% of salary. Quarters are not pro-

to medical fitness and the officer will be
governed by the Colonial Regulations,

of the University of Cambridge Local
Examinations Syndicate will be held

POLICE NOTICES.
THE OWNERS OF PUBLIC SERVICE
VEHICLES, GOODS VEHICLES AND
TRAILERS (H., H.T. & T.
PLATES,)
The attention of persons who own the
types of vehicles mentioned above, is
drawn to the provisions contained in
Regulations 18 and 19 and all amend-
ments thereto of the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic Regulations, 1940, whereby
no licence may be issued or renewed for
such vehicles unless the Inspector certi-
fies that the vehicle complies with all
the provisions of the Ordinance and of
these Regulations.
The Inspector of Motor Vehicles will
be available during the months of May
and June from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. except
on Sunday and Public Holidays, to en-
sure that all the abovementioned classes
of vehicles are inspected, and are road-
worthy before the 30th June, 1957.
Regulation 18 (5) requires that these
vehicles are examined twice annually
that is, before the 30th day of June and
the 31st day of December, in each year.

SALE OF PETROLEUM.
The attention of the general public is
drawn to sections 15, 16 and 17 of the
Petroleum Ordinance No. 30 of 1956
which read as follows:-
15. (1) It shall not be lawful to
sell or keep for sale any petroleum
within the limits of the towns of
Kingstown or Georgetown or such
other places as the Governor-in-Coun-
cil may from time to time proclaim
except under a licence to be obtained
under this Ordinance.
(2) All petroleum kept for sale
shall be kept in a closed tank or other
vessel made of iron, zinc, tin, or other
uninflammable material.
16. It shall not be lawful to sell or
keep for sale crude or dangerous pe-
troleum except under a licence to be
obtained under this Ordinance.
17. Any person acting in contra-
vention of any of the provisions con-
tained in the two last preceding
sections shall be liable to a fine not
exceeding two hundred and forty
dollars or to imprisonment for six
months, and all crude petroleum,
petroleum, or dangerous petroleum in
respect of which any such offence has
been committed shall be forfeited to
the Crown.

THE PORT WORKERS WAGES COUNCIL.
The Port Workers Wages Council hereby gives notice of its intention to submit
to the Governor Proposals for fixing the Statutory minimum remuneration
specified in the Schedule below.
The Wages Council will consider any written representation with respect to
these proposals sent to it within 14 days from the 14th day of May, 1957. Any
such representation should be signed by the person making the same giving
his or her address) and sent to the Secretary of the Wages Council. Copies of the
proposals can also be obtained from the Secretary of the Wages Council.
It is desirable that persons making objection should state the precise grounds
of their objections.

4. The minimum remuneration paid to workers to whom this Order applies
shall not be less than the hourly minimum rate.
DANGEROUS AND DIFFICULT CARGO:
5. Whenever a worker works on dangerous and difficult cargo, there shall be
paid, in addition to the hourly rates 4bove mentioned, the sum of six cents per
ton. The total amount so earned to be divided equally among the workers engaged
in handling such cargo.
The expression "dangerous and difficult cargo" shall be taken to mean,
Manure, Caustic Soda, Acids, Cement, Barbed Wire, Temper Lime, Galvanized
Iron and Expanded Metal.

the prior payment of customs duty in
cases where the invoices and other docu-
