COUNCIL, GREADIA .
Applications are invited from suitably
qualified candidates for appointment to
the vacant post of Shorthand Writer,
Legislative Council, Grenada. The post,
which is that of an Administrative As-
sistant in the General Civil Service, is
pensionable. The successful candidate
will, however, be on probation for one
year in the first instance. On the satis-
factory conclusion of the probationary
appointment, the appointee will be con-
firmed. The appointee will be subject
to Colonial Regulations, General Orders,
Financial Rules and such other Orders
as may from time to time be in force.
2. The salary attached to the post is
in the scale $2,592 x $96-$2,880 together
with a pensionable pay addition of 20
per cent of salary. A point of entry in
the scale may be fixed in accordance
with the candidate's qualifications and
experience.
3. The duties of the Shorthand
Writer are as follows:-
(I) attending meetings of the Legis-
lative Council and recording the
proceedings accurately in short-
hand;
(ii) transcribing the notes taken and
making typewritten copies there
of;
(iii) undertaking any other duties
that may be assigned by the Ad-
ministrator.
4. Candidates should be in possession
of at least the Cambridge School Certi-
ficate or its equivalent, and must be
capable of writing accurate shorthand
at a speed of not less than 150 words per
minute and of typewriting at a speed of
not less than 60 words per minute. Pre-
vious experience in legislature and court
reporting will be an advantage.
5. Vacation leave is earned at the
rate of 45 days for each completed
year of resident service up to a maxi-
mum of 180 days, subject to the comple-
tion of a minimum tour of service of
two years.

seas, wvuld 1;e provided with passages
to Grenada for himself, his wife and
children (if any) not exceeding five
persons in all, provided they either ac-
company him to Grenada or join him
here within twelve months of his depar-
ture for the Colony: (children to be
under 18 years of age, unmarried and
dependent on the officer).
7. Applications should be in the can-
didate's own handwriting and should
state:-
(i) age;
(ii) school or schools or University
at which education and certifi-
cates or diplomas chtained;
(iii) nature of present and past em-
ployment with dates;
(iv) amount of monthly salary or
wages earned in the post in
which applicant was last em-
ployed;

ANIMAL i U-SBANDRY OF'I(ER.
DEPARTMENTT' OF AGRICULTURE.
BRITTSH HONDURAk.
1. Appointment.
The appointment, which is non-pen-
sionable, will be for a period of 3 years,
including leave, in the first instance. It
will be subject to a satisfactory medical
examination as well as to. the Colonial
Regulations and to the General Orders
of British Honduras in force for the
time being.
2. Salary.
The salary scale is $3,120 x $120-
$3,240 x $150-$4,740 E.B. $4,920 x $180-
$5,460 with entry at a point determinedI
by any special qualifications and experi-
ence. The current rate of exchange of
the BH dollar is $4 equals 1 sterling.
Half salary will be paid from the date of
embarkation, and full salary from the
date of arrival in British Honduras.
3. Allowances.
Travelling and subsistence allowances
are payable at local rates for approved
travel on duty. Under the present Regu-
lations actual transport expenses are
paid and subsistence is at the rate of
$2.50 a day for the first 6 days and $2
thereafter.
4. Gratuity.
On satisfactory completion of the ap-
pointment the officer will be entitled to
a gratuity equal to 10% of the total
salary drawn during the period of en-
gagement.
5. Quarters.
A Government quarter will be pro-
vided at Central Farm the Headquarters
of the Agricultural Department. Rent is
charged at the rate of 71/2% of salary,
subject toc a maximum rate of $480 a
year. Heavy furniture is provided at a
rent of 6% a year of its total value.
6. Leave.
Vacation leave on full salary will be
granted at the rate of 5 days for each
completed month of resident service,
such leave to be taken on the satisfac-
tory completion of the period of engage-
ment.

8. Medical Attendance.
YFree rnedical treatment at Government
Hospitals will be provided for the officer.
On admission to Hospital the mainten-
ance charge is at the rate of $2 a day.
9. Income Tax.
The officer will be liable to income tax
in accordance with local rates.
10. Duties.
The officer will be responsible to the
Director of Agriculture for livestock
policy. His duties will entail extensive
travelling amongst cattle producers. He
may be called upon to act for the Veter-
inary Officer when the latter is on leave.
11. Qualifications.
Practical experience of tropical live-
stock improvement programmes, espe-
cially in cattle and pasture work. A de-
gree in Agriculture will be an added ad-
vantage.
12. Method of application.
Applications should reach the Colonial
Secretary, Belize by the 15th of May,
1957.

CUSTOMS NOTICE.
It is hereby notified for general infor-
mation that the privilege of allowing
imported goods to be delivered without
the prior payment of customs duty in
cases where the invoices and other docu-
ments are not available will cease forth-
with. The only exceptions to this rule
will be goods being warehoused in ac-
cordance with Section 24 (1) of the Cus-
toms Revised Ordinance 1926 (Cap. 183
of the Laws.)
In all future cases in which invoices
and other relevant documents are not
available at the time of importation a.
deposit based on the estimated amount
of customs duty payable wil be re-
quired to be made before the goods are
released.
In coming to this decision it is con-
sidered that the special circumstances
which influenced Government in grant-
ing the above-mentioned concession no
longer obtain.

post of Town Constable in accordance
with Section 21 (1) of the Local Govern-

NOTICE.
SEA ISLAND COTTON CLOSE
SEASON.
Notice is hereby given that an Order
in Council gazetted on 26th March 1957
declares the Close Season for Cotton to
be as follows:-
Saint Vincent from 1st May, 1957 to
15th August, 1957.
St. Vincent Grenadines from 1st April
1957-30th June, 1957.
All Cotton and Ochro plants must be
destroyed before the Close Season
commences. Owing to the prevalence of
Pink Boll Worms, growers are asked to
pay particular attention to the cleaning
up of their Cotton Houses and Fields.
Any person not complying with the
Close Season Regulations will be liable
to prosecution.

tioned building for the storage of petro-
leum.
This notice is issued in accordance
with Section 9 Subsection (6) of Cap.
180 of the Laws of St. Vincent as
amended by Ordinance No. 17 of 1945.
