TEACHERS' STRIKE SITUATION.

The St. Vincent Government wel-
comes the proposal of the Secretary of
State for the Colonies to initiate ;an
immediate independent review of tea-
chers ,salaries in the Wi-ndward Islands
so that he may consider what are the
appropriate levels for such salaries, tak-
ing into account salaries of Civil Ser-
vants, and trust that the St. Vincent
Teachers' Association will now arrange
for its members to return to their duties.

2. Qualifieations: Applicants should
be registered Medical Practition(rs and
should have between two to four years

3. Duties: The duties are those or-
dinarily performed by a Senior Medical
Officer in a large acute general hospital
of 500 beds and include attending to
medical and surgical out-patients, visit-
ing wards, operations, midwifery,
casualty duty, children's clinic and any
other duties as the Governor or any duly
authorised officers may from time to
time direct.
4. Salary and Appointment: The
post is full time and pensionable with a
fixed salary of $5,040 per annum. A
temporary C.O.L.A. of $156 per annum
is also payable. The salary is at present
under review. No private practice is
allowed. In case of a pensionable
appointment salary is subject to deduc-
tion of 4% under the Widows and
Orphans Pension Act unless the Officer
is already a contributor to an approved
Widows and Orphans Pension Scheme
of another Colony. Appointment may
also be on agreement for three years in
the first instance. If the officer appoint-
ed on agreement terms is a contributor
to an approved Superannuation Scheme
the employer's share will be paid by the
Government.
5. Passages: An officer appointed on
pensionable terms is eligible for the cost
of passages for himself and family from

dinance 1951 as amended by Section 2
of Ordinance No. 9 of 1956 which reads
as follows and which must be strictly
complied with:-
4 A (1) Any person organising or
concerned in organising any
public meeting or procession
shall notify the Chief of Po-
lice at least twenty-four hours
before the time fixed for such
meeting or procession of his
intention to hold such meet-
ing or procession and shall
state the time and place pro-
posed for such assembly and
in the case of a procession,
the route proposed to he
followed.
Provided that the provisions
of this subsection shall not
apply to funeral processions.
