POST OF INSPECTOR OF SCHOOLS,
ST. LUCIA.
Applications are invited for appoint-
ment to the vacant pensionable post of
Inspector of Schools, St. Lucia.
Qualification: Trained Teacher, well
experienced in the work of Primary
Schools and preferably with External
academic and/or/ professional qualifi-
cations.
Salary: $2880 x 120-$3600 per
annum. Travelling and subsistence
allowance at the rate of $500 p.a. will be
paid.

VACANT POST FOR MEDICAL OFFICERS
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO.
Applications are invited from Doctors
with medical qualifications registrable
in the United Kingdom and with at
least one year's hospital experience
after qualification for vacant posts of
Grade *C' Medical Officer in the Medical
Department of the Government of
Trinidad and Tobago.
Officers will be stationed at one or
other of the two Colonial Hospitals.
They will be required to carry out the
duties normally performed hy house
physicians or house surgeons in acute
general hospitals of this size (500 beds).
They will be required to assume
responsibilities for cases in wards under
the supervision of Specialist Officers
and/or experienced Grade 'B' Officers
(of Registrar's status).
Appointment will be on probation for
two years or if preferable on agreement
for three years. The salary scale ranges
from $4,560 to $6,480 per annum, and
officers m;iy be appointed at a suitable
pcintt it the scale depending on previous
experience.
Government, quarters, if available,
will be provided at the rental of 8%o of
salary up to a maximum of $50 per
month. Where quarters are not avail-
able a house allowance will be paid in
accordance with local regulations.

passages on vacation leave subject tc a

VACANCY FOR A DENTAL SURGEON.
Applications are invited from suitably
qualified, persons for the post of full-
time Dental Surgeon, Medical Depart-
ment, British Guiana.
2. The salary of the post is on Scale
A 1 : $4,560 x $240-$6,720-$6,960 per
annum. No private or consulting prac-
tice is allowed.
3. The Dental Surgeon will be re-
quired to perform all the usual pro-
cedure of a dentist and to render dental
treatmentt to school children and other
,persons in his district and to perform
such other duties as may be required
by the Director of Medical Services.
In the first instance, he will be posted
to the County of Essequibo with Suddie
as his headquarters. He will be re-
quired to make regular visits to the
northh West District and the Interior of
the Colony where on occasions condi-
tions may be primitive to administer
treatment. During these tours he will
work primarily amongst t lihe Amerindian
population. Subsistence allowance in
accordance with local regulations will
b- paid in respect of absences from
Headquarters.
4. Applicants must possess an ap-
proved Diploma or Degree in Dental
Surgery or the equivalent minimum
dental qualification registrable in the
United Kingdom.
5. The post is on the Pensionable
Establishment, Appointment may be
either on a permanent and pensionable
basis, subject, if the candidate is not
already in Government employment, to
his being passed as medically fit and to
his serving a probationary period of two
years. or on a three-year contract, re-

OF LAND SETTLEMENT SCHEMES.

Suierintendents of Land Settlement
Schemines in the Land Settlement Depart-
ment, British Guiana.

3. The duties of a Superintendent of
Land Settlement are, subject to the
directions of the Director of Land Settle-
ment, to be in charge of and responsible
for the efficient administration of ;a
Lind Settlement. This involves de-
velopment work, including the prepara-
tion of' lanl, drainage, and irrigation etc.
and the allocation of land to settlers;
the inspection and timingof agricultural
operations; the keeping of proper statis-
tics and accounts: and the supervision
of the general welfare of settlers.
4. Candidates should be graduates of
a recognized Agricultural College or
holders of comparable qualifications in
Agriculture. They should have had
experience in drainage and irrigation,
soil conservation and land utilisation
and should be experienced in handling
of labour.
5. The posts are on the Pensionable
Establishment. Appointment may be
either on a permanent pensionable basis,

at an annual salary in tie scale of $4,400
x 240-$5,120 (U.S.). A representation
allowance of $1,400 (U.S.) per annumi
and a House allowance of $1,400 per
annum are payable. Passages on
assumption and termination of appoint-
ment for the Liaison Officer and family
up to five in all from and to the place
of engagement will be paid.
2. The post does not at present carry
pension or superannuation rights. The
appointment will be for three years in
the first instance.
3. Candidates should be University
graduates conversant with experience of
life and the educational system in the
U.S.A. and should preferably have at-
tended a U.S.A. University.
4. The duties of the post include ad-
vising students generally in securing
places for them in approved universities,
and in evaluating af U.S.A. degrees in
relation to their equivalent in the United
Kingdom for purposes of recruitment
to service in the British Caribbean terri-
tories. The Liaison Officer will keep
Governments informed of educational
developments in North America and
keep students in touch with employ-
mnt opportunities in the West Indies.
5. The Officer will be responsible to
British Caribbean Governments for the
execution of his duties but in the matter
of local discipline and administration,
responsible to the U.K. Colonial Attache
in Washington. He will also be re-
quired to assist the Colonial Attache as
occasion demands in the execution of
certain of his routine duties relating to
the West Indies.

ton under the aegis of the British
Embassy.

THE CURRENCY ORDINANCE (AMENDMENT OF
SECOND SCHEDULE) REGULATIONS.
(Gazetted 4th October, 1955).
1. Short title. These Regulations may be cited as the Currency Ordin-
ance (Amendment of Second Schedule) Regulations, 1955.
2. Second Schedule to Currency- Ordinance Substituted.
For the Second Schedule to the Currency Ordinance the following shall be
substituted:-

3. Revocation. The Currency (Coin) Regulations, 1955, (S.R. & 0.
1955, No. 29) are hereby revoked.
Made by the Governor after consultation with the Board of Commissioners
of Currency, British Caribbean Territories (Eastern Group) and with the approval
of the Secretary of State, under section 5 (4) of the Currency Ordinance, 1950
(No. 17 of 1950) this 1st'day of October, 1955.

THE CURRENCY (COIN) REGULATIONS, 1955.
(Gazetted 4th October, 1955).
1. Short title. These Regulations miay be cited as the Currency (Coin)
Regulations, 1955.
2. Interpretation. In these Regulations-
"Agent Bank" means, any bank appointed or' employed by the Board to act
as its agent;
"coin" means any coin provided, issued or re-issued, or to bc provided,
issued or re-issued under the authority of the Ordinance;
"Centre" means any place other than Headquarters at which the Board
has established an office;
"Currency Officer" means a member of the Board or any other person
appointed by the Boaid with the approval of the Governor to be a
Currency Officer;
"Headquarters" means the headquarters of the Board at Trinidad;
"Sub-Centre" means any place at which the Board has not established
an office but at which there is .n Agent Bank;
"the Board" shall have the same meaning as in the Ordinance;
"The Ordinance" means the Currency Ordinance. *
3. Minting of coin. All coin shall be minted by or under the direction
of the Master of Her Majesty's Royal Mint in England.
4. Moulds for the minting of coins. The design of coins shall be
approved by the Secretary of State and dies from, which coins are to be minted
shall be retained in the custody ot the Royal Mint.
5. Custody of coin. (1) All unissued coin and all coin withdrawn
from circulation shall be kept in a strong fire-proof vault provided by the Board
or by an Agent Bank:
Provided that unissued coin shall be, stored separately from coin withdrawn
from circulation.
(2) Each door or entrance of a vault provided by the Bnard shall be
secured by three different locks, the keys or combinations of which shall be
S eld respectively by such three Currency Officers as the Board with the
approval of the Governor may from time to time appoint.

(3) Each door or entrance of a vault provided by an Agent Bank shall
be secured by at least two different locks the keys or combinations of which
shall be held, by two employees of the Agent Bank.
(4) Coin kept in a vault provided by an Agent Rank by ,irtr.ue of this
Regulation shall, as far as practicable, be stored separately from the funds
.of the Agent Bank.
6. Re-issue of coinl; If selected for re-issue, coin withdra-An from cir-.
culatioh shall be re-issued in preference to coin not previously iss ed. .
7. Minimum sum that may be lodged with the Board or the
Crown Agents. (1) The minimum sum which, at the option of the Board,
under the provisions of subsection (2) of section 7 of the Ordinance may, be
lodged with the Board or the Crown Agents shall be twenty-five thousand dollars
or the equivalent in sterling, as the case may be:
(2) Rate of commission. The rate of commission chargeable by the Board
for the issue or receipt of coin under the provisions of subsection (2) of section 7
of the Ordinance shall be published in tae Gazette,
8. Coin Register. (1) The Board shall cause a Coin Register to be kept
at Headquarters in which shall be recorded all coins supplied to the Board, issued,
-withdrawn from circulation or shipped to the Crown Agents.
(2) An entry shall forthwith be made in the Coin Register and signed by
at least two Currency Officers showing! thq date and nature of each such trans-
action, the number of coins of each denomination and the total valru. of the coins
involved and the number of coins of each denomination and total value of
coins remaining unissued.
9. Stock Book. (1) The Board shall cause a Stock Book lo be kept at
each Centre and Sib-Centre showing the date and nature of each transaction,
the quantity in each denomination of coins deposited or withdraw from a, vault
provided for under regulation 5 of these Regulations and the total value of each
deposit or withdrawal.
(2) the Stock Book shall be kept in a strong fire-proof vault or safe, and
each entry therein shall be signed-
(a) where the vault in which the coin is kept is provided by the Board,
by every Currency Officer authorized to hold a key or combination of
the vault in which the coin is' kept; and
(b) where the vault in which the coin is kept is provided by an Agent
Bank, by a Currency Officer.
10. Board of Survey. (1) There shall be a Board of Survey appointed
by the Governor which shall consist of at least two persons, neither of whin
shall be a member of the Board or a Currency Officer, whose duty it shall be
to examine the stocks of coins held in any vault provided by the Board, wheth-
er unissued or awaiting re-issue or shipment to the Crown Agents. ts the case
may be.

(2) The Director of Audit shall be notified of every survey to be held
and shall be entitled kto be present, either in person or by his officers, at any
survey.
(3) Ordinary surveys shall be held at least quarterly, anda in addition
at least one surprise survey shall be held every year. The Governor may
order a surprise survey at any time.
(4) At any survey the Board of Survey may accept, without counting
the contents thereof, if the seals are apparently intact-
(i) any sealed package that bears the seal of-
(a) the Directoi of Audit and at least one member of his staff; or
(b) the Crown Agents, or the Royal Mint; or
(c) any recognized bank doing business in the Colony; or
(d) not less than three Treasury Officers not being Currency Officers;
or
(e) not less than three Currency Officers, not being officers appointed
by the Board with the approval of the Governor to hold a key or
combination of the vault; or
(f) a previous Board of Survey.
(ii) any sealed containers or presses sealed with the unbroken seal of any
previous Board of Survey.
(5) A report of each survey, containing a. list of all packages of coins show-
.ing how far the packages have been accepted or counted and the .1alue of their
contents, shall b'e forwarded to the Governor, the Director of Audit and to the
Chairman of the Board who shall cause a, copy of the report td be furnished to
each member of the Board.
(6) All books and documents in which are entered or recorded any account,
minute, memorandum, matter o0, thing relating to the Currency Fund, or what-
ever else shall tend to secure or to show a true account of the transactions of
the Board .shall be at all, times open to examination by the Board of Survey.
11. Coming iito force of Regulations. These Regulations shall be
deemed to have come into force on the 1st day of October, 1955.
