With reference to Government Notice No. 70 of 8th March, 1955, it is notified
for general information .that Mr. C. M. DEVERELL, C.M.G., C.V.O., O.B.E., Gov-
ernor-Designate and Commander in Chief. Windward Islands, and Mrs. Deverell
are due to arrive in Trinidad by the Dutch Vessel "CORNICA" on 20t.h June, and
in Grenada on 21st June, 1955.

COLONIAL DEVELOPMENT AND WELFARE ALLOCATIONS, 1955-60.
The following ,text of a telegram containing an Announcement by the
Secretary of State for the Colonies with respect to allocations of C. D. & W Funds
for the period 1955-60 is published for Lgeneral information:-
As is well known, the United Kingdom Government have made -.vailable
in the past substantial sums by way of grants and loans under C. D. & W. Acts
to supplement other sources of finance available for development of Colonial
Territories. The Colony of St. Vincent is now to have made available to
it over the next 5 years a New Allocation of 540,000. To this must be
added the money in the Colony's existing allocation which has not yet been
so committed to projects requiring C. D. & W. Assistance, or have been so
committed but has not been spent. This money will be, carried forward to
be available for the Colony in the new period. Taking this into account,
it will be possible for the Colony to draw on C.D. & W. Funds at a consider-
ably higher rate over the, 5-year period now beginning than over the past
10-year period. This is an indication of Her Majesty's Government's
intention to continue to assist the Development and Welfare of Colonial
Territories. The schemes for' which C. D. & W. Grants are: required in the
new period will of course have to t-e agreed with the Secretary of State,
and he has made it clear that he will give first priority to schemes which
promote economic development of tha Colony.
2. The New Allocations to the other colonies in the Windward Islands
are as follows:-Dominica 820,C00, Grenada 540,000 St. Lucia 1,130,000.

There will also be as before, an allocation for Schemes relating to
the Windward Islands as a whole, which will be administered by the Gov-
ernor. The amount of this allocation for 1955/60 will be 220.000.

was published in the United Kingdom on the 2nd May.

(No. 22 of 1946)
AND
IN THE MATTER of a Declaration by the Governor in Council that certain
portion of land at Eyre in the Parish of It. George is to be acquired for
a public purpose:
DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION OF LAND
(FIRST PUBLICATION).
WHEREAS it is enacted by Section 3 of the Land Acquisition Ordinance
(No. 22 of 1946) that if the Governor in Council considers that any land should
be acquired for a public purpose he may cause a declaration to that effect to
b'e made.
AND WHEREAS it is considered by the Governor in Council that the under-
mentioned land should be acquired for public purpose, that is to say the con-
struction thereon of a Radio Relay Station:
Now IT Is HEREBY DECLARED by His Excellency the Governor acting by and
with the consent of the Executive Council of the Colony of Saint Vincent,
that upon the second publication of the Declaration in the Gazette all that
piece and parcel of land situate at Eyre in, the Parish of St. George containing
2 rds. 21 perches (or 27497 sq. ft.) and bounded on the North, East and West
by lands of P. S. N'anton and on the South by the Public Road, shall be acquired
for the above-mentioned purpose and shall vest absolutely in ths Crown:
AND IT Is HEREBY FURTHER DECLARED AND NOTIFIED THAT the plan showing
the above-mentioned land has been drawn and prepared by Mr. E. Stinson
Campbell, licensed Land Surveyor, and may be inspected at all reasonable
hours at the Surveys Office in the town of Kingstown in the said Colony.

BURIAL GROUND.
It is hereby notified that the Gover-
nor-in-Council in pursuance of the
powers conferred upon him by subsec-
tion (3) of section 3 of the Burial
Grounds Ordinance, 1951, has licensed
and set apart as a private burial ground
all that portion of land situate at Dove
Island in the Colony of St. Vincent.

POSTS OF AGRICULTURAL ASSIST-
ANTS, DEPARTMENT OF AGRICUL-
TURE, ST. VINCENT.
Applications are invited for two va-
cant posts of Agricultural Assistants in
the Departm n-nt of Airiculture, St.
Vincent.
The posts which ;tre pensionable
carry a salary scale of $2,112 x$96-
$2,976. Consideration will be given to
the appointment of an applicant at a
point in excess of the minimum if cir-
cuilmsLances warrant.
No quarters are provided.
A travelling allowance according to
the means of transport used and ap-
proved by the Superintendent of Agri-
culture is payable.
Applicants should have the Diploma
of the Imperial College of Tropical
Agriculture or an equivalent degree.
Experience, especially in extension
work will be advantageous.
The duties of the officers will be those
assigned to them by the Superintendent
of Agriculture to whom they will be
directly responsible. Such duties will
include the improvement of both large
and small-scale agriculture in a sound
system of land utilization, paying par-
ticular attention to the education of
agriculturists in better farming
methods, such as the application of soil
conservation measures, the more effec-
tive utilisation of livestock in approp-
riate systems of mixed farming, the
use of fertilisers, adoption of co-opera-
tive methods in the processing and
marketing o f agricultural products.
Also the supervision and guidance of
agricultural credit organizations and
land settlements, and assisting gener-
ally in conducting the business of the
Agricultural Department and in the
administration of laws relating to Agri-
culture. In alldition to perform such
other duties a mtony f-rom' time to timer
be assigned to them. The Officers will
be subject to the Colonial Regulations,
General Orders, Financial Rules and all
Ordinances and Subsidiary legislation
for the time being in force.
Applicants should furnish testimon-
ials (which will not be returned) cer-
tified as true copies by n Justice of the
Peace, Minister of Religion or Head of
a Government Department.
