I TRANSIT VISIT OF GOVERNOR.
His Excellency Sir EDWARD BETHAM BEETHAM, K.C.M.G., C.V.O., O.B.E.,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Windward Islands, and Lady Beetham
passed through the Colony, but did not land, on Monday 14th March, 1955, on
the S.S. "Windward Islands" en route to the United Kingdom via St. Lucia
and Dominica where His Excellency will pay short farewell visits.
His Excellency was met on board by His Honour 0. R. KELSICK, D.F.C., Acting
Administrator, and Mrs. Kelsick.
On His Excellency's departure from Grenada, Mr. Louis COO.S-LARTIGUE,
O.B.E., Chief Secretary, Windward Islands, was appointed Governor's Deputy.

has Civil Service Status and the post is

The school is a Government Institu-

OF THE WEST INDIES.

Applications ai e invited for two posts
of Registrar or Senior Registrar in tlhe
Division of Ohstetrics and Gynaeology
at the above-nalmed leaching hospitti
which is in special relaLionship with the
University of London. A higher qual-
ification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
is desirable but not essential. The suc-
cessftul candidates will be required to
assume duties 1)v the end of June and
early in October. 1955, respectively.
The appointments will each he for
one year in the first instance, subject to
renewal. Salarv is in the scale 800 x
100- 1,000/1.100 x 100-1,400 per
annum, depending on experience and
qualification. Single accommodation
and hoard or a limited number of un-
furnished flats for unmarried or married
Officers, are provided at a deduction of
125 per annamn or 5% of salary, res-
pectively. Return first class passage by
sea will be paid for one person only in
each case.

Annlications are invited for the post
of Chief Pharmacist at the above-named
teaching hospital which is in special


relationship \\ith the University of
London. Applicants should possess the
Ph.C. qualification or its equivalent,
and should b- experienced in steiiliza-
tion and hospital routine.
The successful applicant will be re-
quired to train students to the standard
of the Chemists and Druggists qualifying
examination, and to give instruction in
Pharmacy to Medical students study-
ing for the M.B., B.S. degree of the
University of London.
The salary payable will lie in the
scale of 950 x 25-1,050 per annum.
depending on qualifications and ex-
perience. A deduction of 5% of salary
will be made for superannuation pur-
poses. Return first class passage by
sea will he paid for one person only.

PUBLIC HEALTH NOTICE.

The danger of Yellow Fever which
has long hung over the people of St.
Vinceit will shortly he removed.
The long awaited program to ei;td-
icate the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, the
carrier of Yellow Fever, from the
Island has now commenced with the
assistance of the World Health Organ-
isation and the Pan American Sanitary
Bureau. A W.H.O. Sanitary Specialist,
Mr. SIMPSON, arrived in the Colony on
Saturday 5th instant and preliminary
staff preparations were commenced on
Monday 7th instant.
Staff has already b(en recruited and
is now heing trained. It is planned
that sprayin.. operations will comnm en(ce
in the Kin-stown area on Wedncsda/,
16th Mar'ch. 1955.
The co-operation of the public is
solicited in this important health meas-
ure and the Health Authorities look
forward to your assisting the staff in
carrying out the work. Householders
will be notified twenty-four hours be-
fore the spraying of their houses, and
will be handed a pamphlet with in-
structions as to what to do in prepar-
ation to the sprayers.
The sprayinte in tlddition to killing
all mosquitoes in the house will destroy

(LIQUOR).

It is herely notified for general in-
formation that the Quarterly Licensing
Session will be hield in the undermen-
tioned Parish for the purpose (of hearing
applications from applicants in the Par-
ish for the granting (f certificates in
accordance with the Liquor Licence
Ordinance, 1948, at the time and place
hereunder:

POLICE NOTICES.

The attention of all owners and
drivers of motor vehicles is drawn to
the fact that the Police will be carrying
out a: check of licences and insurance
certificates on the 21st and 22nd March
1955.
It is proposed to ;iffix (Check No-
tic,,s" on the windscreen of vehicles
checked and passed by the Police.
Any motorist so desiring may pro-
duce the necessary documents at his/
her most convenient: Police Stat ion e-
fore the dates of check and if in order,
receive and affix check notices which
will avoid delay subsequently.
Owners and dri ers are further re-
minded that it is an offence to drive an
unlicensed or uninsured vehicle or to
drive without a driving permit.

vehicles is drawn to Section 2i sub-
section 19 of the Motor Vehicles and
Road Traffic Ordinaniice, No. 20 of 1940
which roads a," follows :-
The driver of a motor vehicle, shall,
on the approach of any engine or other

draw up close to the lelt hand side of
the road and stop, leaving the centre

WHEREAS it is enacted by section 1 of the Public Utility Undertakings and
Public Health Services Arbitration Ordinance, 1952, that the said Ordinance
shall come into operation on a date to be fixed by the Governor by Proclamation
published in the Gazette:
Now THEREFORE I, OSMUND RANDOLPIH KELSICK, the officer for the time being
administering the Government of the Colony, do hereby proclaim that the afore-
said Ordinance shall come into operation on the 21st day of March, One thou-
sand nine hundred and fifty-five.
