The following announcement is published for general information :-
It is announced by the Secretary of State for the Colonies, Mr. Alan
Lennox Boyd, that Her Majesty the Queen has been pleased to approve of
the Appointment of Sir EDWARD BETHAM BEETHAM, K.C.M.G., C.V.O.,
O.B.E., Governor and Commander in Chief of the Windward Islands, to be
Governor and Commander in Chief of Trinidad and Tobago in succession to
Major General Sir HUBERT RANCE, G.C.M.G., G.B.E., C.B., who is shortly
retiring from that appointment."

WEST INDIAN FEDERATION.
The following announcement made by the Secretary of State for the Colonies
is published for general information:-
"By agreement of West Indian Governments concerned, Her Majesty's
Government have now arranged for Conference mentioned in Secretary of
State's statement of February 2nd on Federation to take place in Trinidad
between 13th and 18th March. The Conference will reconsider the question
of control of movement of persons between one member territory of the pro-
posed Caribbean Federation and another.
The Chairman of the Conference will be Lord Lloyd, Parliamentary Under
Secretary of State for the Colonies, who will be assisted by Sir Stephen Luke
the Commissioner for the preparation of the Federal Organisation. The Con-
ference will be attended by representatives of West Indian Governments
and their legal advisers."

(No. 22 of 1940).
AND
IN THE MATTER of the acquisition by the Governor in Council of certain plots
of land situate at Troumaca in the Parish St. David in the Island of St. Vin-
cent containing the areas shown in the Schedule hereto.
DECLARATION OF ACQUISITION
(Under section 3 of the Ordinance).
WHEREAS it was decided by the Governor in Council that the plots of land
described in the Schedule hereto should be acquired for a public purpose, to wit,
the execution therein of Anti-erosion measures for the protection of the village
of Troumaca and adjacent lands;
AND WHEREAS the said plots of land have been acquired compulsorily for the
public purpose aforesaid;
AND WHEREAS plans showing the above-mentioned plots of land may be inspect-
ed during working hours at the Survey Office in the town of Kingstown in the
Island of St. Vincent;
Now, THEREFORE, this is to inform all persons interested, that, upon the
SECOND PUBLICATION of this Declaration in the Gazette, the above-mentioned plots
of land shall vest absolutely in the Crown.

VACANCY FOR ASSISTANT ATTORNEY
GENERAL, BRITISH HONDURAS.
Applications are invited for the post
of Assistant Attorney General, British
Honduras, which will fall vacant about
the middle of 1955.
2. The duties of the post are:-
(1) To prosecute for the Crown in
the Courts of the Colony and
to app-ar for the Govern ment
in civil proceedings ;
(2) To act as legal adviser to Gov-
ernment, as directed by the
Attorney General ;
(3) To draft or assist in drafting
the laws of the Colony ;
(4) To perform any other duty and
render any further assistance
to the Attorney General as may
be directed.
E'-3. The qualifications require(i are
those of a larrister-at-Law with at least
four years' lpactical experience.
4. The post is on the permanent and
pensionable establishment and carries a
salary in the scale of $3,120 x 120-
3,600 x 150-3,900 E.B. $4,050 x 150-
4,200. ($14 .H. = 1 Sterling). The
point of entry to the scale will depend
on the qi;dificttions and experience of
the successful c:in didatle.
5. Except in the case of officers con-
firmed in their appointments wit ', other
Government, the appointment will he
on probation for two years in the first
instance. The successful candidate will
be required to produce a medical ceiti-
ficate of fitn i-s. :iid will be sul ject to
Colonial 1?egn'!n rt ns and to local Gen-
eral Orders.
6. Free Pat sages will be provided on
first appointment and on leave fr the
officer and his fmiiiily, not exceeding
four persons in all. Laii\e with full
salary is at ihe iat )lf ive days for each
completed month of resident service,
with a maximum of 180 days. The
length of a tour is '2 to 3 years.
Free passages of leaiv- are provided for
the officer and his \\ ife, subject to the
provision of funils annually ib3 the Leg-
islntive Assembly. When travelling on
duty a subsistence allowance of $2.50
a day for the first six (days, S2.00 a day
af;er the first six days, and $1.75 a day
after the first thi it' days, is paid.
7. Free quart-is are not provided.
But, if Government qonatersare allocat-
ed to the officer, rental is payable at the
rate of 7% of salary and the basic heavy
furniture is provided at an annual rental
of 6% of its total value.
8. Income Tax is payable in accord-
anc- with local legislation.

It is hereby notified for general infor-
mation that there exists an allocation
of dollars for the purchase of private
cars and commercial vehicles from dol-
lar sources.
It is to be clearly understood that, the
allocation has been allowed in order to
meet cases where essential need can be
proved and the following conditions
will be taken into account in assessing
the eligibility of applicants for licences
to import these vehicles :-
(i) the purchase of a United State.
North American Vehicle is essen-
tial and no reasonable substitute
can be found in the non dollar
world ;
(ii) the cars are made available only
to users whose business or pub-
lie duties involve long distance
travel over np-country roads;
(iii) the purchasers can establish that
they have a genuine need for this
type of car for purpose of impor-
tance to the territory ;
(iv) no resale is allowed except to a
user who would qualify under
the same conditions as the origi-
nal sale.

WHEREAS by section 7 of the Bank Holidays Ordinance, Cap. 161, it is enacted
that it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council, from time to time, by Procla-
mation in the Gazette, to appoint a special day to be observed as a Bank Holiday
throughout the Colony:
Now THEREFORE I do, with the advice of the Executive Council, and pursuant
to the authority in me vested by the said Ordinance, hereby appoint Tuesday,
the 22nd day of February, 1955, to be observed as a Bank Holiday throughout the
Colony.
GIVEN under my hand and the Public Seal of the Island of Saint Vincent at
the Government Office in the said Island this 14th day of February in
the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and-Fifty-five and in
