MISCELLANEOUS NOTICES.
THE GOVERNMENTS OF THE BRITISH
WEST INDIES, BRITISH GUIANA AND
BRITISH HONDURAS.
The Governments of the above-named
Colonies have recently established a
Regional Economic Committee with
headquarters in the office of the Comp-
troller for Development and Welfare
in the West Indies.
The primary functions of the Com-
mittee are to act as an advisory and
consultative body to the participating
governments in economic matters, and
to assume executive and financial con-
trol of a British Caribbean Trade Com-
missioner Service in the United King-
dom and Canada.
The Committee now invites applica-
tions from suitably qualified persons
for the following posts:-
1. Executive Secretary to the Regional
Economic Corinittee
-at an annual salary of about 2,500.
Candidates for this post should have
;j wide interest in and sound know-
ledge of West Indian affairs. They
should possess high qualifications and
experience in posts of comparable
character, adequate academic qualifi-
cations in economics or commerce,
;ind ihave held appointments demand-
ing personal responsibility and initia-
tive in business and/or government
service.
2. Assi.stant S'ecreta.'ry (Statistician)
-at an annual salary of about 1,500().
Candidates for this post should pos-
sess a. r-cognisetd qualification in sta-
tistics and administrative experience
in dealing with economic and com-
nmrcial matters. The Assistant Secre-
tary will be responsible for present-
ing statistical material relating to
trade and commerce for the work of
the Committee and its m' nmhers.
3. Trade Comimissioner in the United
Kinoadom
-at a salary ol about ;2,500 per
ann iii plus a re presentation allowance
of .!,500 per annum.

Candidates should have wide experi-
ence of the West Indies and should
have held positions of high responsi-
bility in the field of trade and com-
merce either in business or govern-
ment. They should preferably have
experience of dealing with matters of
commercial policy, e.g. trade negotia-
tions, etc. Preference will be given
to candidates having wide contacts
with trade and government organisa-
tions in the United Kingdom.
4. Assistant Trade Cominmisioner in
.the United Kingdom
-at an annual salary of about 1,320
in the first place plus a representation
allowance of 500.
The main burden of the day-to-day
work of the London office will fall
on this officer. Candidates should
therefore possess a sound knowledge
of office organisation and administra-
tive experience in dealing with mat-
ters of trade and commerce.
General
The Committee reserves the right to
fill any post by invitation if no suitable
.applications are received, salaries of the
posts will be in the region of the figures
stated but other terms of service (e.g.
leave, passages and pension entitlement)
have yet to be determined. The Com-
mittee would be prepared to give special
consideration in these matters to ap-
pointees with exceptional qualifications.
The Committee proposes to make
these appointments in November, 1951,
and applications, containing full details
of candidates education, qualifications
and experience, together with support-
ing documents an.I names of two

REPATRIATION OF IMMIGRANTS
FROM TRINIDAD.
Government action to repatriate inm-

some 6,000 other persons have entered
Trinidad unknown to the immigration
authorities and are at large. Govern-
ment has no wish to set West Indians
against West Indians or to break up re-
spectable homes and families or to
repatriate useful citizens. As a con-
sequence those persons who have landed
in the Colony illegally or who have
overstayed the time allowed them on
their landing permits are being allowed
to apply for exemption from repatriation.
Such persons must be British subjects
without any major criminal record who
if they have overstayed, their permit
have resided in the Colony for over two
years beyond the expiry date or who
if they landed illegally have been in the
Colony for over three years. They
must also satisfy this Governmnent
that they can support themselves and
family if aiy by being in regular em-
ployment or by being owners or tenants
of property from which they derive an
income. Exemption is also extended to
persons married to Trinidadians with a
family born of that marriage. If ex-
emption is not claimed by the 15th
November. 1951, action in accordance
with the law will be resumed.

training places is still acute. Universi-
ties are, however, in general disposed
to look with a kindly eye on Colonial
candidates, provided that they can give
evidence of a high standard of potential
ability. The matriculation requirements
are considerably stiffer under the new
regulations.
2. Both Government scholars and
private students should show that they
have attempted to take advantage of
such local University facilities for
higher education as now exist, before
submitting applications for admission
to Universities in the United Kingdom.
3. Every effort will be made to secure
vacancies for properly sponsored and
really well qualified Colonial students.
Though in some cases, particularly in
Scotland, it may be possible to place
Students up to the end of March, 1952,
the main body of applications should be
in the hands of the Director of Colonial
Scholars not later than 31st January,
1952, if the fullest advantage is to be
taken of the places available.
In the following categories, however,
an earlier approach is essential and ap-
plications should reach the Director of
Colonial Scholars by 30th November,
1951, at the latest:-
(a) Courses in Medicine, Dentistry,
Engineering and pure Science.
(b) Teachers' training courses (includ-
ing Physical Training, Domestic
Science and Frobel or other
kindergarten training for which
the sponsorship of the Ministry
of Education is required.
(c) Applications for admission to Ox-
ford or Cambri, i e Colleges.
(d) Recommendations for awards un-
ler the 1,000,000 Colonial De-
veloplnmnt and Welfare Scholar-
ship Scheme.
4. It is most undesirable that would-
be candidates for admission should
proceed to the United Kingdom unan-
nounced and unsponsored in the hope
of obtaining admission to Universities
and Colleges. Tutorial Colleges and
Polytechnies, as well as Universities,
are overbu rdened wiiit long waiting
lists of nol-priority candidates a nl it
is almino.t impossible to gain admission
to such institutions without due notice
in the proper form. Students are,
therefore, strongly warned against pro-
ceeding to the United Kingdom for
higher education until they are assured
that a place has been made available
for them.
5. It is particularly important that
students should complete their pre-
matriculation studies in their own coun-
try, unless for any reason this should
prove to be quite impossible, in which
case application should be made in the
normal way, and they should not arrive
without sponsorship and the guarantee
of a place in a suitable institution.
6. Full details of financial and other
arrangements are obtainable on applica-
tion at Government Office and all stu-
dents who intend to proceed to the
United Kingdom are strongly urged to
consult the Administration for advice
before making their arrangements.

PRESSED IN GERMAN CURRENCY.
The Board of Trade announces that
H.M. Government in the United King-
dom have decided to waive certain of
their rights in respect of such German-
owned securities as are expressed in
German currency and issued by the
German St;ite or by a body of persons
constituted or incorporated in or under
the laws of Germany.
Accordingly, the Board of Trade is
prepared to receive applications from
their former German owners for the
release from control under Trading
with the Enemy legislation of securities
of German issue expressed in German
currency, whether issued in registered
or beirer form, and also of certain do-
cuments evidencing ownership in iuch
securities. These documents may be-

Notice is hereby given that a compe-
titive examination for the award of the
annual Kingstown Board Scholarship
will be held at the Richmond Hill
School on Friday, 5th October, 1951,
beginning at 9.00 a.m.
Candidates must have been less than
12 years of age on the 31st July, 1951,
and must have attended a Government
or Assisted School within Kingstown
or within one mile from the Boundaries
of the Town during the 12 months pre-
ceding the 31st July, 1951, for not less
than 75% of the maximum attendances
possible during such period.
